Robot for President
I know this has the makings of a bad sci-fi movie, but its really the only thing I can think of that would work.
You see, you could lay out the code and algorithms that this robot would use for everyone to see. You could deduce everything that this robot would do in every single situation. The robot has no secret motives (assuming open source code and all). The robot doesn't care about anything, cannot be swayed by emotion. The robot doesn't do things to the detrement of the American people- its not programmed to do that. The robot is a just a series of if-then statements. But then you encounter a problem- the robot is easily taken advantage of, because you can predict its every move. Humans interacting with the robot would make trouble. Therefore, ALL government officials would have to be robots. Once in place, these robots can operate for a nominal amount of money. Discuss. |
Who programs these robots?
Liberal: IF (ECONOMY SUCKS) THEN (INCREASE TAXES) Conservative: IF (ECONOMY SUCKS) THEN (REDUCE TAXES) |
We still vote for the robots, and they are programmed by whomever wishes to program them. The point is that the intentions/plans are out there for everyone to see, and nobody is allowed to change the code once the robot is in office.

Sort of like "Gort" in "The Day the Earth Stood Still". (classic 50s Sci-Fi movie)

Never saw that flick- I will have to check it out!

Why not just get an IRS forensic accountant to run the government and fix up the spending; "you spent what on a robot?!"
Problem with the robot line is it will have to be patched every month, may just hang for no reason, and will have to be upgraded every year, on the bright side there won't be any scandals with fat interns.... |
That robot better not be running a Microsoft OS. :)

Actually, with modern technology, maybe the entire concept of representative government is outdated.
200 years ago, we obviously needed a representative government, because people couldn't readily communicate with each other over even a 100 mile distance. But now, with the internet, we can all communicate with each other, instantly. We don't need someone to represent us, we can each represent ourselves! Either by text message, phone in, or internet vote, like American Idol on steroids, we'll just each directly cast our own votes on the issues. Cut out the middleman. |

I think the President would have to be done in Linux. Its the only way- rememeber, he has to be open source. |
Yeah, but I'm sure the Chinese will hack him...

Bush is not a robot. That's why he strayed from the program. |
