NASCAR and boogity boogity

M'kay my buddy is a NASCAR fan... and at the start of a race all the fans go boogity boogity, whether it be at the track or watching on TV.

So can someone enlighten me?

WTF does boogity boogity mean or what is the origin of the saying?

Hey Scott!

You recently educated me on this. It means 'to the top/bump'. Remember?

I was trying to male a somewhat convoluted joke on the F1 thread...
As in NASCAR = Teams trying to cheat on the rules, drivers getting into fights off track, and on the track bumping into each other and...
F1 = Teams trying to cheat on the rules, drivers getting into fights off track, and on the track bumping into each other and...

I don't think anyone got the joke and it probably didn't translate well to Swedish, my apologies.

I believe Darryl Waltrip coined that phrase. I think it's his tag line now. I cringe when I hear it because it sounds like something a 10 year old and his friends would say.

The world according to Wiki

As the cars take the green flag to start each race, Waltrip shouts "Boogity Boogity Boogity!" (sometimes also including "Lets Go Racing Boys!"), is a nonsense phrase that has become his trademark in recent years. (The phrase appears in the 1960 doo wop parody "Who Put the Bomp" by Barry Mann.) The story Waltrip has told about this is that, as a driver, he got tired of hearing his spotter or crew chief say "green, green, green" at the start of every race and wanted to hear something more original.

The phrase is also used in the 1974 Ray Stevens hit song "The Streak".

The song origin makes sense. I remember hearing it long before DeeDubya was spouting it out every race day.

Perhaps because you prefer to use a worn cliche than to come up an original comparison? Or perhaps they're secretly your two favorite TV shows you can pick up with rabbit ears?

Or possibly you're one of the 75 million U.S. residents that admit to being fans?

We have to hang our tin foil hats on our rabbit ears when we want to watch Jerry Springer.

Those stats can't be right.. there is no "moonshiner" listed under occupation.

I remember the Ray Stevens song and it seems like that was long before Mr. Waltrip started using the phrase... or it could just be coincidence.

That's because they all switched over to growing pot in the late '60s.
