Halo III absenteism

Any collateral damage from the release? A couple of my kid's buddies were threatening to go AWOL today, he's away at college and (hopefully) far removed from such temptation. Did the trains run on time?

Huh? Excuse my ignorance, but I don't have the slightest idea what you posted about...

BIG Video game release today. The last time a big sequel game came out like this, there was rampant absenteeism due to gamers wanting to play, or playing all night. We had a few that didn't come in this morning.

I'm currently a college student and noticed a fair number of people missing from my 8:30 class this morning. Didn't connect the possibility until now. Haven't really heard anyone talking about it either and I know some people who are serious gamers.

well...I haven't even bought an xbox 360 yet...

I will before the end of the year though. I love halo and still play the original on my original console.

I pre-ordered it a while ago near home in CA. Now I am in Oklahoma for another month. Have to have it shipped here. Kind of a bummer having to wait an extra week to play it.

I hate to admit that I *still* play Marathon!! My 3-year old daughter sits in my lap and opens doors for me. Even though time has passed it by in graphics, etc., the game was excellent and had a great story line.

At 51, I never expected to get caught up in the whole Halo thing, but my 12 yo daughter loves it and has me hooked. I still suck at it, but I'm getting better. Anyhow, I asked her if she wanted to go down on Monday night to get Halo 3, and she said, "Dad, I've got school tomorrow". Go figure. Haven't played 3 yet but soon...

Still no PS3 or or 360 in my house. I have been waiting for factory refurbs to show up.

My son loves Halo and I play from time to time, no where near as good as the kids playing online but I still have fun.

I really am not a FPS fan, I prefer driving games.

Lately I have been getting on GT3 every night and just running laps on the Ring. I drive for about an hour and shut it off.

When Halo 1 came out, one of my college buddies bought Xbox and the game. About 10 guys stayed up for 3 nights smoking weed, drinking Natural Light, and playing. Good times.

Halo is popular in part because it offers a good fix for what is wrong with console FPS games, lack of a mouse.

oh and the graphics are just fantastic and such. even my wife played a bit when we got our xbox (prior to our son arriving).

If MS would just put a damn mouse out for fps games they'd convert a LOT of PC gamers. I LOVE the idea of not worrying about whether a game will play right on my xbox vs. a PC but you just can not beat mouse control of your gunsight.

Well... hoping my IT folks aren't monitoring this post.
(<------- See handle)

I bought a copy at 12:12 am on the 25th and stayed up until about 9 am playing. Called in late to work as I crawled into bed and rolled into the office at 2 yesterday.

Then I left work at 5:30, skipped Fire Dept. drill, ordered 2 pizzas, bought a couple of packs of smokes and went at it until 11:30 last night.

Not exactly the epic "lock ins" I've had before when a new game has come out, but then again, it was released on a FRICKING Tuesday!

At this point, I'd say very good, but not great (I'm maybe 1/2 through it). It is much, much better than Halo 2. I'd put it just above Gears of War and just about as good as the phenomenal Bioshock. As good as it is, Halo 3 is evolutionary, not revolutionary like Halo was.

YMMV. I'm sure the Bungie Fanboyz would be apoplectic right now if they heard me "say" this.

I started playing H3 last night in coop mode with 2 other friends over Xbox Live. We played until about 12:30 AM.

I have to say- on my new 46" Samsung LCD 1080p it looks STUNNING! It's just a beautiful game to look at. I agree- evolutionary, but still a good time. I believe it outputs at a true 1080p so it makes good use of tvs that can handle it.

My 17 yo picked it up at midnight and somehow made it to school on time at 6:20AM. He was a little sacked out last night though.

I got a copy in hand and a 52 inch 1080p on the way, trying to resist the temptation to just plop it in and play on my old school CRT.... Much of my office building was empty yesterday...
