Amen! Can I get an Amen from the people?
Nicely said, Dan, on all accounts.
lm6y, I have several friends that did long-ish stints in the can, and they back that up 100%. Child molesters get "special" treatment. Extra-violent beatings, from what I hear. I'm sure it's just coincidence, but sometimes there's nothing but static on the camera....
I've repeated this story on here before, but I'll share it again. I was watching some prison (reality) TV show, and there was some dude in their for multiple child rapes and killings. Apparently this guy buried all the kids in his yard. Well, he made it OK for a bit, until the other inmates found out what he was in for. They show the video tape from a security came, black and white deal, you know. You see the guy standing there, some walls...and then all the sudden a gigantic black figure comes flying across the screen. A fist comes back and through the audio on the SECURITY CAMERA, you hear the sound of bones crushing. That same large black figure proceeds to stomp this guys brains out, as the guards notice something "over yonder" that requires their attention...Unfortunately, the rapist inmate just *barely* survived.
IIRC, they never did identify his assailant...

Matt, Perhaps naively or just idealisitically I believe that in the case of some crimes there are convicts that can be trained, taught, given skills, etc that MIGHT rehabilitate them. I am in favor of strict determinate sentencing and mandatory training. Oh, you don't want to learn to be a....whatever? You never get out, period. We need no MORE convicted criminals with yet greater "skills" from having spent decades in the can with other, better criminals back in our midst again. Use the criminals with actual work skills (there are some; some in the white collar prisons) to train the ones that have none. Oh and I don't want those effers working out with weights and getting stronger while they're waiting to come out and kick my azz either! While I'm *****ing, if any guard is found to have looked the other way on drugs being smuggled in or used in prison? If convicted, they are required to serve time in the SAME LEVEL of institution as the ones in which they allowed that drug stuff to happen. Ought to cut down some on drugs in prision!
In the case of sex crimes in general and SPECIFICALLY in the case of pedophilia I think there is SUBSTANTIAL evidence that there is NO fixing those people. I would listen intently to a proposal for a life sentence with no parole as the minimum sentence for a first time conviction for pedophilia.
They are predators and they will not/cannot control themselves (which applies really doesn't matter at all). They prey on the weakest, most vulnerable and most loved by all of us regardless of our color, creed or political beliefs. Our society needs to say - within the boundaries of the law - that this will NOT be tolerated AT ALL, EVER, PERIOD!
