Van Halen tour final rehearsal

Check out this guitar solo.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FGapAkq89-I

A few other choice clips on this page too. I have some cool photos to post in a few too. Seems the boys invited 300 of their closest friends to watch their full production final tour rehearsal.

Thanks! These guys have been my favorite band since High School when I heard their debut album. I always hoped they'd do a reunion tour.

AwwwwWWWHHHYEAH!

Not a big concert-goer (maybe 30, lifetime), but Van Halen put on a great show, and I'll go to this one!

Poor Michael Anthony, his liver probably couldn't take another David Lee-Roth/Van Halen Bros tour.

Any bets on how long it will last? The tour. Sorry being a pecimist :P

I am happy to see that Eddie is doing better. I really miss Michael A. Not to be a spoil sport, but did anyone else think the clip above and the second clip on YouTube was flat? I just didn't feel any excitement. Just seeing the list of songs above got me excited though.

I doubt they were in full Bocephus mode for that dress rehearsal. If VH toured more regularly, I'd boycott this one because of Mike's absence. No way is any 16 yr. old kid who's never played out before gonna replace Mike.

Band sounds good in those clips. Like old Van Halen.

Looks like Dave dug out the ol' Leather Pants too...

Ok, maybe its me, but it sounded pretty lame. Roth sounds like he's doing his lounge act voice and it just sounded devoid of any energy at all. The camera distance from their faces was good though.

It did seem a bit flat to me too. I'm not a huge van halen fan, but always liked them. I remember seeing a live video where at the end Sammy said "now that's a f$%kin' rock concert!" and I remember thinking "yeah, it sure as hell is!". Not many other acts could get away with such a line! Maybe I'm in the minority, but I like both incarnations of the band, but this video seemed to show their age. Maybe it's just because it's only a rehearsal and there's less adrenaline. The playing seemed sloppy, esp. in Panama, which should be really well controlled, and the bassist seemed asleep. Oh well, I'd probably still go if tickets weren't 3 figures. I refuse to pay that for a concert.

I really wanted to like it and be impressed. I grew up with this music in HS like a lot of you guys. And while it was great to see Eddie looking healthy, I thought his playing really wasn't near where it used to be...it hasn't aged well. Neither have the songs. He can still shred, but while he created a whole sound, it feels dated now. Something kinda sad about 50-something guys playing "Beautiful Girls", etc.

Some things should just be left to memories imho. Ymmv.

great youtube link, rick..led me to some good dlr interviews, etc. i swear..i have all my old mid-80's gear..effects pedals that is..and a charvel model 2 i bought my brother back then when he was about 8 (he's 28 now). he switched to drums, so i'm dying to get my hands on that thing, buy an amp and start rockin' again. it's been since the late 80's. i'll need new callouses, but i still play a mean piano, so the fingers should get back into shape quickly. what amp would you recommend for the home at a reasonable price? and would you shop e-bay or the stores?

i don't know..sure it doesn't sound the same, but the stones look kinda funny doin' their thing in their 60's..or is it 70's (charlie watts anyway). as long as they're having some fun and people show up, i'd do it, too. i think i'd just wear something more like blue jeans, etc..more age-appropriate to avoid the chuckles. leather pants? i'm 41 and would be red-faced wearing them..even alone in my house.

I saw the Stones in '82. They *owned* the place. There is a difference between the Stones playing "Street Fighting Man" and VH playing "Hot for Teacher." One is fairly timeless, the other...well...isn't. Again, imho, ymmv.
