I've heard that's pretty common. I even heard I might get such a 1099 for a laptop I was unable to return to a previous employer, as they fired all the people who would have been the ones to deal with it and went out of business shortly thereafter. Never heard from anyone about it though.

That is a good idea - never thought of it. Any idea how far back in the past you can do this? Someone stiffed me in '06. Can I still send a 1099? I don't mean only 1 person stiffed me - but this particular one really pissed me off.
