iPhone help v.2
Did some shopping on apple.com (evil place), and discovered that I don't think I really need the iPhone. My Motorola phone I have right now works perfectly, and there is really no sense in upgrading phones for quite some time, i.e poor college student. I'll be honest the only real reason I waned the iPhone was for the youtube, mapquest and safari features. After looking at the website though I realized that the iTouch may be a whole lot better bang for the buck.
Now here's my dilema...I don't know a single person in the market for an iTouch, so I have no real world experience with the device at all. Pelican braintrust; do any of y'all have any personal experience with or secondhand advice about the iTouch? TBFH |
Cant give any advice, but I reallllyyyyyyyyy want the itouch ipod!!! It's the first time I've desired an electronic product so much. I like the idea of the wifi with an ipod. I use my ipod almost everyday and think it would be a great feature to be able to go online anywhere with wifi, without having a monthly contract.

iTouch is the iPhone without the phone.
You'll be happy. Scott |
iTouch is the iPhone without the phone. So, for $299 carry that and a phone around, one in each pocket, or for $100 more have only one thing to carry that does all of it.
My $.02. I won't be getting either for a while. I hate the ol' cell phone, no matter what kind it is. |
And not having the two year contract is definitely going to be the deal breaker. Tahnks guys, this thing is damn sexy. Now to just stroll over to the brand new apple store they built over here.....
|
Gogar - it,s an interesting point, although I do carry both around with me right now. What I like about the iTouch is not having to subscribe to an internet service on my cell phone. Of course I would need to find a wifi connection to be able to connect!

Matt, do you find it difficult to find lots of accesible wifi networks? I am in Houston so I should be pretty easy to find some free wifi wherever I am.
|
Yep, no cellular internet on the iTouch, only if you're near a free network. IIRC
|
No problem with finding wifi here in San Jose, but of course start to move from a metropolitan area and access is harder to find. I like the idea I can go online, it's almost a bonus feature, but i expect in reality I wouldn't be using this feature that often, maybe just checking my email once in a while (oh and of course getting access to Pelican!). But you really are paying for this feature, as the capacity is only 16gb. I use a 20 gb ipod now which is about 75% full. I think for the same price you can get a 80gb regular ipod!

my iPhone has allowed me to drop down to a single device. I didn't think it was possible. I rarely use the wifi though...just aren't enough open/free networks around. I use the phone/data constantly. Not great for web browsing but google searches work fine, the real time traffic data on the google maps is great, and I can do 95% of my email work just on the phone.
Depends on your use I guess, but I'm happy I ditched the phone and the data device and the ipod and just carry one thing now. |
I'm about the same as Nostatic. I'm down to one device, because it does everything I'd want in mobile devices. At least ones I'd want to carry on my person.
|
IT guy finally put in the webmail component for exchange.
Bye Bye blackberry. Down to one device as well. Couldn't be happier. |
iTouch question: Does the it have an integrated speaker like the iPhone? Or will I only be able to listen my music through the headphones like the classic ipods?
|
The integrated speakers are only good in a quiet environment. They are also thin sounding.
If it does not have them you would not be missing much. |
Is the 4GB iPhone no more?
|
I really like my iPhone. I've never had a mp3 player before, so it was convenient for me to have both a phone and iPod all in one. I believe the design for the iTouch is the roughly the same as the iphone, so for me, I would expect to be as happy with an iTouch as I am with my iPhone. BTW: I am not a die-hard Apple fanatic; I just bought the iPhone because I liked it (not a 1st day purhcaser either.) Good luck with your decision.
Oh, and the 4 gig iPhone is NLA. |

Check out the Nokia N800. more than 2x the screen res of the itouch, and it let's you do Skype, even video Skype,(stereo speakers, mic) Also has Bluetooth (think keyboard, GPS,...) removable memory and battery... it even has an FM tuner. Did I mention more than 2x the screen resolution? --it rocks as a little (full) web browser. |
Thanks guys, I have been foiled by them not having their 4gb phone anymore. Through all my searching today I have found a loophole in their two year agreement. By the phone online from apple. Activate the phone through apple, put ur number into the computer and voila all your numbers are right there on the phone. Works just fine. Now to find a 4gb...

stomach, do you happen to have a link for the deals section on apple.com?
