Duke University 7th grade talent search. Is it better to take the ACT OR THE SAT?

Mine took the SAT because it is more universally accepted in my part of the country. It is my understanding that in the southwest part of the country, the ACT is more accepted. I guess this probably doesn't answer your question. Different areas prefer different tests for whatever reason. You would probably need to check with the school guidance office.
I can say however that the Duke TIP Program is a wonderful thing if your child is selected.

My son was selected into Duke's TIP program years ago based partially on his ACT scores, although he also took the SAT's. A very good experience. He is presently in a PhD program at Columbia. Both SAT and ACT are valuable- and usually correlate pretty well. Don't forget PSAT- national merit scholorships are partially based on this as well.
Good luck!!

Take them both. There's no penalty. Submit the best one.
