What ?...you don't know what car is that ??? ...My Lord...It's a Porsche...the famous 911 model...the ICON...I can not still imagine that people don't know that...don't recognize a Porsche car when they see one......I'm a bit frustrated...

Maybe the "hunting trophy" in the trunk confused him :)

Where's that pic of the bear strapped to the back of a 356 when you need it...

Atlantic07 10-04-2007 06:47 AM

strange

Yeah, I had this girl once asking me surprised where the engine was when I opened the trunk in the front :)

It's still hilarious watching uninitiated people trying to find the engine compartment release. . . usually after they've popped the "hood" to discover there's no engine up there. Good entertainment.

Classic, yesterday there were a bunch of young boys (11-12 range) around a local store, when I stepped out of my car they asked me what year my Porsche was, I told them 1979. After the fact I thought about it and I should have asked them how old they were, then answered them, "it's 17 years older than you" :)

Please tell me he gave you a carpool lane sticker. . . That'd be classic.

I had someone compliment me on my "Ferrari."

Aerkuld 10-04-2007 07:04 AM

I had a very cute girl at the gas station look at me putting gas in the 996, "That's wierd, you're putting the gas in the front?" I told her it's because the engines in the back, it's a Porsche thing.

I bought my 1st Porsche (SC) 'bout 2 yrs ago because I was told how "bullet proof" the motor is. I haven't had to do a thing to it.

The motor's in the BACK?!!

Jeff Higgins 10-04-2007 07:42 AM

About five years ago I was at the rifle range with my son for the shooting portion of his hunters' ed class. When we were done, I opened the trunk to put his rifle and other equipment in it. The chief instructor was walking behind the car at the time, and when he saw the hood pop open, he ran around front asking if I needed any help. I told him no; it was only one rifle and a bag. He stood there in literally slack-jawed disbelief; he could care less about the rifle and bag, he thought I was having car trouble. He was astounded that the motor was in the back. I asked him if he had ever seen an old Beetle; the motor is in the back of those, too. He honestly didn't know that, either. Then it struck me - he was actually younger than the last Beetle imported here. I'm getting old...

you know we USED to have HOV lanes...spent millions to build, but now they are just regular lanes..no more hov.
It was very funny to see his face though, i then opened the trunk and it got funnier

Uh, dude, you're HUNTING.

You expect those who cover themselves in animal urine to be cultured?

Whenever my assembly guy Dave wants to carry something in the car, he still goes to the back and asks me to pop the trunk.
This has happened at least a dozen times already....

Oddly enough, on a few occasions, I've had people ask me if my car was a "real" Turbo. I was once asked if I customized it with those wide fenders or if it came that way? One guy just couldn't/wouldn't accept the fact that my car was the real deal until I took him on a tour of the engine pointing out the turbo and intercooler! SHEEESH, IMHO the 930 is not *that* rare. I think he was under the impression that my car was a 934 or something.

URY914 10-04-2007 10:02 AM

You guys have it easy with 911s, at least you can see the engine when you open the hood.

I've had people argue with me when I tell them the engine is in the middle and when I pop the lid they still don't believe me.

When returning from the Dragon last Nov. we returned the 350Z we rented for the weekend. When I followed my brother to the Hertz lot to drop it off, I opened the trunk and was laoding stuff from the 350 in it. We had quite a crowd gather around to see us stuff everything from the 350 to the 911. Truth be told the 911 had 2X if not 3X the cargo capacity over the 350.

The Hertz employees were amazed by the trunk in the front and all the stuff we were packing in there and behind the seats.

You always can pick out non-car guys when they ask you what kind of car that is. It happens from time to time.
