Jim, have you checked the default settings? Things like "Avoid Highways" or "Find Scenic Route" will influence the results.

I find my older Garmin accurate about 99% of the time. This with 5 yo software.

Also, if I'm in an unknown area and query for directions I verify by zooming out on the display.

Yes I made sure I was on either Fastest Route or Shortest Distance, whichever instance I felt it would give me the desired results, sometimes I tried both.

Its sad really, I love the package the Nuvi comes in, compact and wireless are both huge pluses. But after this weekend I almost want to take a sledge hammer to it.

I have an older Magellin 700 and I love it, its big and ugly and it works circles around the Nuvi. I will probably put the Nuvi in my work truck and stick with the Magellin for trips. I just need the Nuvi to get me to houses in Palm Beach Florida, which I am sure it will screw me up there too.

I'll report back on that one as well, after the Nuvi has screwed me at work too.

These options posed to you during your route setup. Correct?

There are other routing options deeper in the application that may influence your results. (At least on my StreetPilot)

No, I have to go to a tools screen and choose my Navigation setup, then choose Fastest Route, Shortest Distance, Use Highways, or Scenic Route.

I'll check this evening to see if there are deeper settings but I doubt it.
