Hotel recommendation in or near Redondo Beach CA?
I would like to forward a solid recommendation ASAP to Grady Clay for his upcoming visit. See here. Or better yet, email Grady direct thru his profile. I think he does PM's. too.

Recently stayed with the family at the Portofino in Redondo Beach. Pretty nice place, especially if you can get a waterside room. I understand Peter Revson used to have an apartment there, FWIW, and the front desk was the finish line for the old Gumball Rally.

hey, welcome to my neighborhood...
Down by the water, there is the Best Western Sunrise, and across the street there is the Crown Plaza (i think that is the name) which is connected to the Golds Gym. Crown is more expensive with a bit more panache... however i stayed at the Sunrise 5 years ago before I moved here and it was quite reasonable price and the rooms were nice. Both hotels are in excellent locations right on the water near the beaches and marina. http://www.bestwestern-sunrise.com/ http://www.ichotelsgroup.com/h/d/cp/1/en/hotel/redcp?rpb=hotel&crUrl=/h/d/cp/1/en/hotelsearchresults PS: These are a bit away from the 405 freeway, probably 15 minutes drive and that is if the traffic is good...more like 30 minutes in normal traffic. You could probably find something very suitable on PCH in El Segundo or Manhattan Beach which would be much closer to the 405, but not as close to the beach...but you could still hit the beach quite easily in a few minutes. So, maybe the answer is if he wants to relax and spend some time by the ocean, then try the Sunrise of the Crown...but if he is looking to avoid time in the car, look for something on PCH in Manhattan Beach or El Segundo near the airport.
