Frickin Cloumbus Day?

A paid day off for effin Columbus day for the USPS? Are you kidding me? I have important mail being delayed.

Seriously, WTF? I must repress this rage as I get pissed off like it's new information each and every year.

Glad Government is composed of us and looking out for us.

Pretty sad that so many businesses give people the day off for Columbus Day but not for Veterans Day.

But I sure didn't the empty roads this morning.

Celebrate your miscalculations...

Am I to believe that this is a moving holiday for the US government worker? I have this vision in my head of a fat, balding Supervisor of Degrees in the Department of Fairness in Appropriations sitting in his garage carefully fitting the final sails on his Santa Maria Diorama.

Don't worry - old Christopher Colombo is falling out of favor.

One dead white male all kinds of people are beginning to hate more and more.. I give it another 10 years before it morphs into Native American Day - or more likely (as American Indians are way out numbered by their cousins from the South), "Columbia Day" or something like that.

The Italians are too well assimilated to care and it never was or could be as much fun as St. Patrick's Day anyway...

"effin Columbus day". Native Americans feel the same way about the day. They wish all you descendents of those land thieving, disease spreading, illegal immigrants would go back home to Europe.

In our software business, we used to give Veterans Day off to all veterans and/or their spouses, everyone else worked. That's the way it should be...

I like that.

Tomorrow is what really matters :)

In 1964, President Lyndon Johnson designated October 9th as "Leif Ericsson Day" in the U.S. in recognition of Leif's arrival in North America around the year 1000 AD.

They probably worked under the table, didn't pay taxes and drove the Indians out of work to boot!SmileWavy

You're lucky. Around here, in San Francisco, they call it Indiginous People's Day.

Flatbutt1 10-08-2007 02:23 PM

keep Columbus Day. All we need is the San Gennaro festival!

That's the way it should be, but it doesn't work. Either the company shuts down or it doesn't. I have NOTHING against the Jewish religion, but their holidays don't sync with the popular ones. I think we should get those days off, too.

WTF do you think they are thinking while the rest are off on Christmas? Or take Good Friday off? They're thinking that the system sorta makes them out of place, that's what many Jews think. Throw away Columbus Day and let's get some parity so the schools and businesses aren't having to treat one day different than another.

I guess it won't ever work because then you've got the other religions.

At least you've got New Year's, which is pretty universal (that is until you consider the Chinese New Year ;))

And it's my birthday, which makes it by default the best day of the year.

Did you know,

The Nina, Pinta, and Santa Maria were named after Italian strippers.;)

What all those pushing for their own special federal holiday either fail to realize (or could care less) is that it costs a business a lot of money to shut down for their "special" day. The government entities just roll on with our tax dollars, no big deal to them. It cost us revenue and hacks off customers if we closed on the ethnic holidays.. We were a small closely held corp. and closed only the major holidays, primarily because that's the only time our clients ever closed down. We did give veterans and spouses off because we felt they especially deserved it (and we owners also happened to be veterans ourselves....). We just told the other employees to show us your DD214 and the day is yours and I don't think anyone really resented it.

VINMAN 10-08-2007 06:12 PM

Hey, back off!! It's the only holiday us Ginnys have!! :D

p911dad 10-08-2007 06:31 PM

yeah! leave Columbus alone! What we need are [U]more[U] holidays, not less. Some of you guys are obviously working too hard, and have your priorities wrong. Work less, not more! And if you insist on working too hard, leave the rest of us alone:D

So you work for the DMV I take it. . .

Can you do something about the cost of my registration renewal? It's too high.
