last year we had to put to sleep 2 of our cats, they were both 18 years old, one had the cancer and another one had othe medical issues, even though these were my wife's cats, I still miss the little pussies. only Time will help you get over the loss or maybe a new little furry friend, a kitten

Scott, sorry to hear of your loss.
You don't need that website above, cause I have just what you need. My solution to your grieving process is to take my 12 year old Balinese Alister. Yes, it will be hard for me to let her go, but hey you need some help and I have the perrrfect solution. PM me and maybe we can work out the logistics.

My two cats are my surrogate children - they're absolutely part of our family. I feel for you and wish you peace and strength.
When the time is right - not now, but eventually, there are many others that would appreciate your love and compassion, and provide you with many more years of happiness.

Really sorry to hear this. Had to put Baby down last year. Hurt worse than I thought....
More than most people I've known who have passed.

Thanks for all the kind words. It was a rough night last night. I kept thinking "the boy" as I called him most of the time, would jump up and lie next to me as he usually did, but realized that would never be happening again. He was truly a very good friend and the sweetest cat I could ever own.
He was not sick, that is why we are in shock. Everything was normal and he never showed any signs of slowing down. He still played like a kitten and acted like a younger cat. He had a heart murmur since birth, so I think his heart just gave out while he slept. I don't really want to get into the reason why he passed. I just want him to rest peacefully, so please let's just not discuss the reason in this thread. I really want this thread to remain kind and considerate. I really appreciate the support...I need it much more than I thought. Doug, I appreciate the offer, but at this point I don't think I will be getting another cat for a long time, if ever. Pug was a one of a kind and I could never replace him.

Condolences on losing Pugsley. In the photo he looks darn happy!
I miss having a cat but my wife is accutely allergic - 30 minutes in a cat owners house and she's a sneezing/wheezing red eyed mess. I can't even get an outdoor cat as the coyote community here is very active and every outdoor cat in the neighborhood has gone missing. Cat's are very cool characters. |

Cats here as well...they may be independent as mentioned above, but they also have a great talent for worming their way into your heart. Sorry to hear of your loss, Scooter. I too know the hurt you feel...

Awfully hard to say goodbye to those furballs.
All I know is that if it is at all possible I would want to return as one of them. Your's looks like he had a great home and a great life. Can't ask for more than that.

I can't say enough thanks for all your good thoughts, it really means a lot to me that I can count on my Pelican friends. It has been a tough day today. I work at home for the most part and he was always there for me when I needed the company. It is hard to not see him, hear him (he was quite the loud snorer) and his purrs were relaxing, or have him bug me in the middle of work. I would give anything to have him jump up on my desk and get in my face one last time. All he ever wanted was a little attention. I have been sad all day, but I am sure things will get better over time. Thanks again.

Dude, sorry about that.
Went thru this recently with the GF's really old Tabby all of a sudden couldn't breathe. Trip to the kitty ER and everything. Moments like this are why it's tough to bring pets in. ![]() rjp |

Lost these boys three years ago ( both within 2 weeks)
Ziwa (tineo) and Goaty . Three left - what can you do when a little girl wants to know where kittens come from ? Goaty was hit by a car - in the head. Lived three more years - reduced to his more feral instincts but a real sweetheart . Gone but never forgotten.

Sorry to hear of your loss. They truly are a family member. Certainly, they will let you know when they want attention!
My mother and girlfriend (now wife) had to have my previous cat put to sleep when she was 11 years old. That December (Dec '91), my wife bought me an 8 week old seal point Siamese that we named Sebastian. He just turned 16 on Monday. He's a cranky ol' fart, but we all love him the same. My daughter, now 7, has always had Sebastian as a pet, and know that she will take it VERY hard when he passes. Of course, so will my wife and I. Again, condolences, and please let us know if we can do anything to help you through these times.

Kinky Friedman used this quote at the end of one of his novels. It really speaks to all of us who took the time to read and commiserate with Scooter, and it sort of chokes me up and makes me happy at the same time:
"We who choose to surround ourselves with lives even more temporary than our own live within a fragile circle easily and often breached. Unable to accept its awful gaps, we still would live no other way. We cherish memory as the only certain immortality, never fully understanding the necessary plan." Irving Townsend Scooter, I hope it helps you, too. mo

my deepest condolences, scooter..i'm starting to sense impending doom myself. i have a rabbit i've had for 10 years. he has a cataract in his right eye (blind in it). if it should progress to glaucoma, he'd need surgery to have the eye removed and not so sure he'd survive the anesthesia. as fate would have it, i've actually done research veterinary surgery and handled anesthesia on rabbits, but they were young and strong.. anyway, feeling the pain of your loss and agree with scott's early post. grieve it now..

Very sorry to hear this. I have a dog that goes everywhere with me, (7k mile road trip this summer), he has developed degenerative myolapathy this year which is crippling him and I will carry him around with me if I have to as long as he is not in pain and eating. I completely understand and have been through it, it sucks but that's the price for caring about an animal. You gave him a great life, focus on that.
Feel better soon...

My first pet was a cat who was more like an attentive devoted friend than a domestic animal. It still tears me up that I couldn't protect him from the cancer that took him. But he had a great 14 years and knew nothing but loving care. That's all we can hope to do.
I'm sure you gave your cat a great life, and in missing him, a sort of immortality.
