Arrow AUGGGH! Vista. I need XP tablet Ed.

I recently bought a UMPC (with Vista) in large part to work with my digital camera. Problem is, My (XP) camera drivers will not load in Vista. (not even under "run as" mode)

Any suggestions?

Does anyone want to trade their old XP tablet edition for Vista Talbet edition?

Which camera? Does the manufacture have updated drivers? You could always run VMWare workstation on your Vista machine and load XP in it, then you would be able to share files between the two OS's.

Just get rid of that MS operating system and you'll be fine.

I refuse to use Vista. When I buy a new laptop, I will be using Linux.

My camera is a Minolta A2. It's unique in that I can control the camera (settings, see what it sees, and take the shot) remotely from a computer. --pretty slick. ..I'm trying to out-do my previous shots, from the various Porsche outings.

The camera support problem is, Sony bought-out all of Minolta's camera technology division. Sony seems to have next to zero interest in supporting the Minolta product. (I believe they have to provide a minimal level of support, contractually.)

I don't think that VMware would be a good solution ..this UMPC isn't bursting with extra bandwidth.

HardDrive, keep me posted. I'm trying to get this sorted soon.

Did you see this:
Manufacturer: Minolta
Version: 6.3.1 R2
Added: March 8, 2006
Updated: March 15, 2006
Filename: Minoltaa2v114.exe
Filesize: 8.54 Mb
OS: Win XP, Windows NT SP3, Windows Vista, Windows NT SP1, Windows NT SP4, Windows 2000 SP1, Windows 2000, Windows ME

Looks like it can be downloaded here:
http://www.driversreal.com/minolta_dimage_a2_digital_camera_firmware_1_14_win dows.htm

No idea if it will work for you, other than listing Vista in the OS.

Thanks Dean. Though, I'm highly suspicious of that link. ..the link reads "http://ca.konicaminolta.com/support. ..." yet the link takes you somewhere else. Cutting and pasting the link takes you to a Minolta firmware upgrade (for the camera) rather than an OS driver update. No where on the Minolta site is there reference to Vista.

Also, 8.54Mb seem a lot for just a USB driver. (the XP driver is just 1.3 Mb)

I might also have one from an old piece of equipment, I'll look around for it when I get a chance. This is a busy week, but I'll try to fit in some digging somewhere.

Trying to unload the iPhone already, eh?

Somewhat interesting, this UMPC does have the same 'flick"-panning as the iPhone (Browsing web pages.) Tho' it doesn't have the lobster-claw zoom that the iPhone does. Likely, I suppose, because the web page is actually readable, on the UMPC, when it comes in at 1024 wide.

btw, what's the brightness of an iPhone screen? 200 nits?

Does anyone know if an OE-install version of XP can be licensed over to another machine? I bought my wife a Compaq tablet a while back . . .I'm thinking that maybe it's possible to switch OS's. --Put Vista on hers and XP on mine. (I have disks for each) IIRC that doesn't work, but maybe someone here knows how it can be done. (?)

Can't help you, but I hope your post steers more people away from Vista. I don't get why it exists.
