Any one at your house right now that can sit at the computer?

You will love Slingbox! I use it all the time when working overseas.

Now that you are getting it hooked up, you need to figure out how to record the programs so you can watch them when you want to!

netstat -rn

... in a DOS box/command prompt will tell you the IP of your PC not the public/outside IP of the router. (and I'm pretty sure it's -n, not -m)

On the router the easiest way would be to web to any number of sites like the one suggested above that can tell you the public IP that you're coming from. That public IP should be the IP of your router. The more complex method would be to web into your router and browse through the menus. Somewhere in there it'll tell you what IP it has.

in command box ipconfig /all
default gateway normally the first router

You should sign up for no-ip.com or dyndns.com.

Most home routers have an automatic update built in for these functions.

Accounts are free.

Again, wrong side of the router. You're average home router will have 2 addresses. The first address will point to the network and be the one that the ISP assigns. The second address will probably be the default of the router on the back side, the side that the PCs connect to, and will be a private address, like 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1, or something like that. I don't think that those private internal addresses will help much.
Or maybe that's exactly what he's looking for.

You can get your public (external, on the intarweb) IP by going to http://checkip.dyndns.org while connected thru your home connection. If you need to know what it is when you aren't home, or want to be able to have your domain, you can get a free subdomain from dyndns.org and just use that wherever. Most home routers have a dyndns client built into them.
