Eating whole foods makes a huge impact on your general health and satisfaction at the table. When I used to go to fast food, it was difficult to feel satisfied on the cheesburger and fries (regular size) eventhough it contained 1000 calories. Take 1000 calories of whole food (food God made, not a factory) and you simply cannot ingest it all. The fiber in vegitables and fruite, the whole grains, the lean proteins, all contribute to filling the gut for something like half the calories.

My $0.02.

But also there are many places in the US where healthy alternatives are difficult to find. So if you need to grab some lunch - junk food is often the only option.

We got so tired of eating crap when travelling in the US that we finally bought a couple of very fat guides to "Healthy Eating in the US" and always take a GPS. That way when we're on the road we can program in the nearest recommended restaurant with some healthy food - and actually plan our route around these.

Most of the restaurants we have found this way have been excellent - but are invariably located in some place where we would never have otherwise come across them.

This came up in a couple of other threads. If your in a hurry, you will not find healthy food fast.

I have to pack my lunch every day unless I have time to stop and find someplace healthy to eat.

That is 100% correct, try eating 1000 calories of whole food and you will feel like your going to explode.

Plus at the end of the day you feel much better and have way more energy than the guy eating the fast food who is going through a insulin crash at 3:00. That energy translates to you getting into the gym easier.

I actually like to eat mostly "healthy" foods. Only one meal a week is "truck stop" food. On Mondays I go out to breakfast with a friend and have eggs, hash browns and whole wheat toast. The rest of the week it is basically veggies, fish, lean meat very occasionally and as little pasta as possible.

Sure, I miss the hamburgers, but I feel much better and am close to 30 pounds lighter than I was 5 months ago. (down to close to 170). I will need to buy new slacks prety soon, a very good feeling.

I do not eat good on weekends for the most part. I will go out for wings and beers or grill burgers or steaks with twice baked potatoes etc..

If I ate crappy food all week long then did this on weekends I would gain weight. So I eat good all week so I can play on weekends. :D

When I am at home, I do the cooking, my girlfriend and I may eat out twice a month or so. Every so often we like to go out to breakfast, IHOP usually. Well the portions that they give you are rediculous. You could feed a family of four on their country omlet breakfast (4 egg omlet, filled with potatoes, sausage peppers, cheese, sour cream), 3 pancakes, and a side of bacon or sausage. I never order directly from the menu. My usual breakfast when we go there will be 2 eggs over easy, wheat toast (no butter), OJ, and a cup of coffee. At any given point you can look at the fat man/woman finishing the whole country omlet breakfast (substitute this with any thing else ordered from the menu)

Homer: Are you saying you're never going to eat any animal again? What about bacon?

Lisa: No.

Homer: Ham?

Lisa: No.

Homer: Pork chops?

Lisa: Dad, those all come from the same animal.

Homer: Heh heh heh. Ooh, yeah, right, Lisa. A wonderful, magical animal.
