Your exuberance will be better grounded after the check clears.

dd74 10-16-2007 03:00 PM

Looks Photoshopped onto the wall. Or you need a few lessons on how to hang art. ;)

Funny U should say that my Daddy was part of the Startup of the Paint by Numbers company by the inventor. Daddy was responsible for the mfg of the paint.

Anyway now U found my secret out....

JCF 10-16-2007 03:21 PM

It's OK , has charm but I sure wouldn't pay 40 grand for some Cezanne ish post - post impressionist post cubist slightly Soutine euro/ west U.S. school work.
Someone really paid you 40 grand ? !
WOW - you did good with that one.

I could do that type stuff in my sleep. And wouldn't need the #'s.

pwd72s 10-16-2007 03:27 PM

Tabby...better believe JCF here...he IS an artist. Your "painting?" Well, I'd rather have a centerfold from a 1961 Playboy hanging on my wall...

Porsche-O-Phile 10-16-2007 03:30 PM

That's nothin'. Now THESE are absolute masterpieces (and yes, I've visited, it's an actual place about 10 miles from where my parents live):

http://www.museumofbadart.org/

BTW "Sunday on the Pot with George" is my fave.

JCF 10-16-2007 03:47 PM

Paul;

You're right. You don't have to be an artist to appreciate this one - but the pose is quoted directly from Velasquez.

Look quick

Used to be that you could find great art pieces in L.A. at estate sales. Now the whole estate sale thing is a network.

OHHHH U BET TOYOTA....ABELS ABELS ABELS.....Auctions off of Garfield in the City of Commerce..they used to get killer stuff every week.

U can still find jems in the rough if you look hard enough, like a Rex Brandt Oil on Board for $150.00. Why..because the ding dongs couldn't read the signature... and only thought of him as a W/Cist....Now if they were familar with the style, pallet and the technical way that he liked to construct his paintings you woulda known.....

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1192580987.jpg

tabs 10-16-2007 04:47 PM

Now get this..I told the sellers that I thought it was a Rex Brandt...they said, "Well thats not how he signed his signature." I replied, "yeah but all you have ever compared it to is his signature on W/Cs, which was done in pencil. this was done in paint." Because the signatures on his W/Cs were done in pencil it appears very near & legible the signature on this painting done in paint looks mushed. However if you look at the shack in the painting, do you notice the word "REX" staring you in the face?

Besides being on my wall, I know I've seen this image before. I just can't temember where? I think in a catalog of Brandts work, that I have been trying to find in one of my boxes.

craigster59 10-16-2007 09:51 PM

Tabs, is that your W/C of the boathouse and dock? Good composition, will look great on the wall. How about your 'Plein Aire" interest, has that made some $$ ?

tabs 10-16-2007 11:48 PM

Craig that is an Oil on Board and not a W/C.. however Brandt primarily worked as a W/C artist so that is why you would think of it as a W/C.

Yes it belongs to me...I have yet to cash in and

The last thing I sold I made 15% on my money in about 2 weeks..
