How to fix corrupt mpg file ??
Computer gurus, please help!!
I have a few mpg video files that got screwed up during a file transfer from memory stick to HD. The file size seems correct, but on a W2000 machine the media player refuses to open/play the file, saying it is corrupt. An XP machine opens the file, but gets stuck on the first frame for the duration of the clip. I tried running chkdsk on the original memory stick, found some errors that were fixed, but still no luck running the mpg files. Any ideas? Anyone know of a good utility to fix the mpg errors? |
Is this video that you shot using a still/video camera/phone?
If yes do they play properly on the original device? If yes my 1st guess would be a CO/DEC issue. |
Try a different player - I recommend VLC - http://www.videolan.org

Does a great job playing DVDs as well. And its free! |
Is it possible to talk her into dressing up in that outfit again and re-shooting?

Its my daughter and her friends doing some school project. I can only wish it was something more, um, "creative". |

You may be out of luck. Corrupt files typically are missing chunks of data. Kinda like taking a melon scoop to your brain, the more you scoop out the less functional you become. |
Here, try this free utility on a copy of your MPG file: http://www.videohelp.com/tools/MPEG_Corrector
Another repair utility: http://www.softlookup.com/display.asp?id=10386 and another: http://3d2f.com/programs/7-280-asf-avi-rm-wmv-repair-download.shtml |
RickM, thanks, I'll give those a try!
