My co-worker just had someone killed
That's right, she had someone killed.... let me explain
A Co-worker's father is in the hospital awaiting a lung transplant. My very religious co-worker, Jane, asked her this morning how her father was doing and she explained that he needed a lung transplant. So Jane told her that she would e-mail all her friends to pray at 11AM for a lung to become available. Well at 11:15 my co-worker got a call that they had found a lung. So now Jane is taking some credit that her prayers were answered. I told her that her prayers were responsible for someone's death...lol.

Your friend did not cause anyone to die or be killed. It happend and thank God that the family is allowing the organs to be passed on to save other people's lives. This really is not something that I would joke about...

Yo , screwball i'm glad you're amused you think someone had to die in order for someone to be saved. What are you some kind of anti-religious jerk-off?
I'm sure your co-worker was not wishing any harm on anybody, the fact is i myself am an organ donor and i hope that i may pass along anything possible in order to save a life some day.......your co-worker needs to pray for you to get a life......?

Well, as someone who's been involved in transplanting organs, I wasn't offended. Yes, it's serious business. People and families in their greatest times of sorrow and hope are involved on both ends of the transaction. But if Neil's co-worker can jokingly take some credit for the potential life-extending benefits that this lung represents, then I think it's also OK to (privately) do some playful ribbing of her, as well. If said in certain context, it can bring a little levity to an otherwise emotionally crushing time for all parties involved. (i.e. I wouldn't say this to the donor's family.) Inappropriate--perhaps. But take it a little easy on the guy, too.

Being anti-religous doesn't make someone a jerk-off, Mr. 60 post jerk-off.
You missed his point altogether. Sheesh...

In all seriousness I commend organ donors and their families. We need more of them.
I was just remarking at someone thinking that Prayer circles or e-mails make one bit of difference and if they do help, making them notice the "consequences" of their actions. So yes, I guess I am one of those anti-religious jerk-offs.

On another note, I am glad that people allow this, and I am listed as a donor myself. I’m also glad we have developed the technologies and methodologies to do transplants. I just don’t see the hand of god anywhere in the picture.

It is alright. Maybe it is a personality thing, maybe it differs with religious belief and maybe it is perceived differently when working with these matters on a daily basis, like Noah and me for instance.
I did not take offence at all. It is a fact of life. For one individual to receive an organ, another have to die. The timing for the prayers and the event happening made looking at it from the opposite direction rather funny. The donor would have died anyway, praying or not, so no harm done. I think working for years with disease and death one needs to accomodate a certain lightness of mind, including seeing the funny albeit sometimes tragic or even grotesque in a situation. It is a way of acustoming to very hard, repeated, events where you have to stay focused and sharp. It is OK to cry, but you can´t lose it and if you can not find a joke in it now and then - well, let me asure you friends - you will crack open like a mellon. I imagine it is something similar in war - although a thousand times worse. Spell Check out, sorry.

You know, as long as everything worked out, no one should have a problem. I commend that you could bring some humor into this. No, her prayers - whatever those are - did not have directly to do with someone's death - but jeez, in the long run, her brother is still alive - as long as the lung agrees with his body. That's something to be thankful for.

One of my wife's coworkers at an old job tried to have her husband killed. Unfortunately for her, the "hit man" she contacted was an undercover cop...

I know someone who has an aunt in London who needed a cornea replacement. She was lying in the hospital bed as the doctor explained to her how he would remove the old lens with the cataract, and insert the shiny new lens in its place. Only problem was, he explained, that they had no donor lens available at the moment. Then he looked out the window and said: "Oh, but its raining. Won't be long, then..."
Seriously, I admire people who are organ donors. Your friend praying for a donor did not kill anyone. Accidents happen all the time. Statistically, you could be next. Think about that for a while.
