Alright, so I built up a 350 with a hotter cam, but I didn't roll the cam back. I just buttoned everything up with the timing marks aligned. I did find out that the timing needs to be retarded so much that I had to move all the wires on the cap one over. She runs pretty good, but I'm not finshed tweaking it just yet.

Would any of you guys give a chit if it were your vehicle? BTW, this is the first and last 350 I'll ever turn a ******* wrench on.;) Those GM guys are nucking futs. A 14mm here a 9/16ths there, good grief!:rolleyes:

What timing set-up did you use? Chain? Gears? If it were me hiring this done, I'd insist on a re-do. But...your labor, your engine, right?

All you have managed to do is set the timing for the ignition. You still need to time your cam. Get a degree wheel and do it right.

Not mine. It's chain, 88 4 bolt motor, TBI. I'll admit, I guess I don't know didley about this V8. The valves are opening when they are supposed to, but the rotor damned sure wasn't pointing toward the driver side headlight like it normally does to fire #1. Instead #1 is now right at the front.

Educate me on cam timing. I'm not well versed on the subject. In other words, I have no clue what I'm doing, but it has been rebuilt and it runs. It also doesn't leak.

Never mind, I'm a dumbass. I know what I need to do. Oil pump shaft isn't where it needs to be for everything to come together right. Thanks

It's not the cam. It's not the timing. The distributor is one tooth off. :rolleyes:

After I thought about it for awhile I realized that. However, the position of the oil pump "groove" is what is keeping me from getting the distributor gear in the right spot. When corrected it will allow the rotor position to be normal.

I've never put a V8 together before. I screwed it all up, shoot me.:D

Take a screw driver and you can move that oil pump shaft anywhere you want it to be.
Then drop the dizzy in where it should be, no stress and no worries.
the chebby v8 is the most simple engine i have ever overhauled and i've done a bunch of them.
try rebuilding an AMC 390 for fun. I kept saying, 'now why in the world would they design it that way?"
