I'm too upset to work today.

All I can think about is poor Ellen Degeneris and Iggy.

I called in. I'm under the covers weeping as we speak.

Who would have thought that a woman that dress like a man would be that unstable?

flashgordon13 10-18-2007 05:48 AM

What a load of BS!! The threatening phone call to the shelter backfired on her and now she looks like an idiot. I'm glad that the shelter is sticking to the agreement and not buckling to her half assed attemps to threaten them. I feel bad for the dog as he just needs a good home and doesn't deserve to be yanked from home to home.

The more I hear, the more I think the dog adoption lady is off her rocker. It sounds like the new family went in to fill out the adoption papers, and instead of considering them she took the information given and went to their house to 'rescue' the puppy. It also sounds like she's already given it to another family...

Lesson to Ellen... Lie, lie, lie... "Yep, the pups right here" "Yep, it's doing great" "I think I'll have it on the show tomorrow"

frogger 10-18-2007 05:58 AM

ROFLMAO! Great thread, Kurt. :)

Whatever....

You know, its nice Ellen adopted a dog rather than buy a big dollar pedigreed whateverhound that fits in her purse (...does she use a purse?)

But the thing is, when it didn't work out WHY does all the resulting "stuff" belong on TV? Why the hell are WE discussing it?

I think I know the answer - it is uber rare when a celebrity shows REAL, unguarded emotion about anything. Apparently it freaks everyone out.

If you're old enough to remember, witness Sen. Ed Muskey crying about his wife being criticdized during his run for the Presidency in....1972? Candidacy OVER!

Howard Dean getting momentarily carried away after a primary victory and howling at the moon - Candidacy OVER!

Tom Cruise jumping on Oprah's couch and acting like an idiot for a second - everyone goes apeschit over it.

Now Ellen crying about something she's upset about - again everyone makes a big deal out of it.

P.S. Wait...wait.....Byron or Sammy will be here in a minute to tell us how the Ellen thing results from a Liberal character flaw!

please fill me in ? what did Iggy Pop do to Degenerate?

URY914 10-18-2007 06:09 AM

I'm taking a personal day myself. I'm just going to spend the day with my dogs.

Jims5543 10-18-2007 06:12 AM

This was discussed on Howard this morning, the dog is now in a good home away from her. This is not the 1st time she has done this. I think this is dog #4.

It's high American drama that is riveting the country while war rages in Iraq.

-Ellen gets mutt from pound - but discovers later that mutt is hyperactive and too much work for her.
-So Ellen gives mutt to friends with kids. They bond and love mutt.
-Pound hears about this and reclaims mutt from family, because pounds contract with Ellen required HER to keep the mutt and not give to it 3rd parties.
-Family and kids are heartbroken.
-Ellen throws hissy fit, then does deep soul searching - all on national television.
-The nation is riveted to their plasma screens. All work stops. People stay home in bed (because it's a daytime talk show).

That in any case is the version I heard from my neighbour, with tears in her eyes.

Ellen is one of those people I could never understand why she's famous. She's not funny in the least, she's hideous to look at and she's not very smart. Can I get rich too?

MRM 10-18-2007 06:18 AM

From what I can gather Iggy and Ellen were admiring each other's dresses. Ellen was dressed in her usual pants but Iggy was trying to show her how to wear a skirt in case she got invited to an awards show. So they tried on a couple of dresses, the last one having a long train with lots of lace - Iggy's style, not Ellen's. Unfortunately, Ellen's little yap yap dog was caught inside the train without Ellen and Iggy knowing it. As Iggy taught Ellen how to sit like a lady with a long train, she sat on the poor pup and squished it. Neither noticed and it was still stuck to Ellen's rear as she went out to water her plants later that day.

A woman who is a huge animal lover was passing by saw the poor critter still stuck between Ellen's bums. She attempted a rescue, which Ellen interpreted as an over-aggressive overture. Things went from bad to worse until the tabloids arrived. The dog lover seems to have made off with the dog, shouting over her shoulder as she ran away that people who don't want to take care of their dogs shouldn't have any, no matter how rich they are and regardless of the fancy dress they wear.

Ellen's attempts at retreiving the lost pup have met with resistance and the pup appears firmly in the hands of the animal lover. Ellen is still so upset over the incident and the lost love of her pooch that she broke down and cried at the memory on her show.

does it really have to be badly to make money?

The adoption agency is right. When a responsible adoption agency places a dog in a home, they check out the home it is going into. They don't want the dogs they adopt out to end up hurt, used as bait in dogfights, lost, etc.

Lets say a dog is known to the adoption agency as being non cat-friendly. They adopt it to someone. That person decides that their allergies can't handle the pooch. So they give it to their friend that has cats. One cat ends up dead, dog loses an eye. Or lets say a dog is not a good mix with kids. You get the point.

The agency is the expert in home placement. The adopter is not. Just because the person in this scenario is famous does not make this different. If the people who she gave the dog to fill out an application, and they pass the background check, and the dog is still there, then they should be able to get it.

All I know is what I've heard while trying to change the channel, so maybe I missed something. But unless there's something missing, Ellen is doing a huge disservice to adoption agencies everywhere by demonizing a part of the process which in reality saves dogs' lives.

There's a very good Curb Your Enthusiasm episode, sort of like this where Larry finds a new home for Jeff's dog and then has to take it back. Hilarious stuff.

Aerkuld 10-18-2007 06:25 AM

I would say I couldn't care less, but I keep suprising myself and finding out that I can care a lot less.
It's a dog. It isn't as if anyone involved has grown up with that puppy, owned it for years and become really attached to it, or it's saved their life or something. I'd be prepared to bet a substantial sum of money that it isn't the only dog available. Go to a shelter, there are hundreds of them desperate for a good home.

Z-man 10-18-2007 06:26 AM

My speculation:

1. I suppose news stories are at an all time low.
2. Ellen's star guest must have cancelled last minute, so she needed a filler segment.
3. Ellen must have been watching too many reality-TV shows, and figured if the crying works on Bridezillas, it may work for her show.
4. Ellen's ratings have been in the tank for sometime.
5. Ellen figures if she makes a show of how much she cares, she'll be up for nomination for a Nobel Peace Prize, just like Al Gore.

Whatever the case, who freakin' cares? Hollywood is getting senseless. Whatever happened to actors actually doing real acting?

End rant,
-Z
