Cliff, you're an oenophile at heart, man!

Looks like U-HAUL sells a wine shipping kit for ten bucks!

This is the only product or service from U-Haul you should ever consider, by the way. That said U-Haul will probably find a way to piss you off during the experience of purchasing the above kit so be ready. Their motto: "We have positive revenue growth because the birth rate exceeds our ability to upset customers."

Good luck!

As a matter of fact, I was just in Napa and Sonoma this past weekend and used one of their containers to pack my wine and check it as luggage. V. Sattui guarantees their containers against breakage. You have to leave it untaped until you check in and then tape it up and the airline gives you a huge clear plastic bag to put the container in. I think northern CA airports must be used to this. Mine arrived at Dulles with no problem. I had a few bottles shipped from Viansa too, so we'll see how they arrive. Would have shipped them home from Sattui too, but they wouldn't ship fewer than six bottles and their prices have almost doubled since the last time I was there. So I just bought four and checked them as luggage.

Ship it! I bought 30 or so bottle of nice wines last time I was in Yountville. Shipped them UPS with no problems. I put 4 bottles in a wine box like the one above and checked it in. 2 of the bottles were cracked when I got home and the other 2 tasted awful (I'm guessing due to the environment in the luggage compartment).

+1 on shipping it

Cliffy you can use our wine shipping company if you need - let me know if I can help.

Or pick up a shipper from a wine store and ship it from you local Staples (not Fedex/Kinkos or UPS Store) and indicate that it is "Vinegar" or "Olive Oil" and you can ship it cheaper.

Oh, get it there at least a week in advance so it settles down from all the shaking up.

A couple of years ago I flew to Dallas with a Gatorade bottle full. I guess it's better to be secure.

Vigneron friends in France regularly send us the fruit of their vines via courier. They have only ever 'lost' one case and it wasn't coming to me. Wine travels very well ;)

put the bottles in condoms and swallow them before boarding the plane....

I think you should strap all of the bottles to your chest using duck tape. Maybe include some bright red wires for extra strength. Throw on a turban to travel in style.

Let us all know how your flight goes.

Pack it well and check the luggage!!!!!!!!
