AUSTIN, Texas -- State agencies issue too many reports, a new 668-page report says. The Texas State Library and Archives Commission spent 18 months and canvassed more than 170 agencies and public colleges and universities, checking on all the reports they are assigned to do.

Well I suppose if we don't want to know what the gubmit is doing, then perhaps we could save some money by having them stop making reports. Another good idea!

Heskett’s initial findings indicate more than 400 report requirements are obsolete, duplicative or not needed as frequently as currently required.

Agencies stand to save thousands of staff hours and tons of paper, although the commission hasn’t estimated yet exactly how much of either, Heskett said.

I'm with ya, Chris. Seriously. Set those bureaucrats free from burdensome inane report-generating, so they can do the regulatory work upon which they should be focusing. In a public agency, a great deal of time is wasted responding to requests for information, accusations of hecklers and haters, etc. Indeed, as I have oft reported here, there are those (even and especially those in the legislative body) who actively seek to ruin agencies' effectiveness through various BS report-writing mandates and other tactics. This report-writing problem is the work of your beloved (R) legislators.
