All I want for Christmas!

I know I can't have one, I am sure it isn't legal, but I want a cell phone jammer for my car. I just want it to block all cell phones within 75 feet of the car as I drive down the freeway. Is this too much?

I made a large sign which reads "GET OFF THE PHONE, DUMBF**K!" usually followed with the finger.

the reactions from motorists are priceless

No. But when the clown on the cell phone finds it suddenly went dead, and starts looking at it and calling into it "Hello! Hello! Hello!" there's a higher chance she/he will weave right into your lane.

Be careful what you wish for. ;)

I'll take one if you have a second.

Too little...problem is they'll all take their eyes off the road, look at their phones to figure out why they can't bump their soup coolers incessantly and merge with me.

I need a mile, minimum:)

Edit: dd74 synapses are faster...

Do they make such a thing? I have a suburban with a 5000 watt generator mounted under the hood. I can run up to about 50 amps of 115 AC or about 25 amps of 230 AC. If there is a jammer we just might get a few of them off the phone. They seem to sit in the fast lane and the faster they talk the slower they drive.

I was trying to be nice, I didn't want to block all the women in the grocerey stores talking on the phone or everyone at the Starbucks having coffee and talking. Just the drivers close by that have their phones on.

I have a friend that tried one of the portable ones in his office. He actually had patients talking on their cell phones during office visits and minor procedures. It worked pretty well- but did not block nextel at all. He got it from the UK, but I don't know the model. They still need work, but he does carry it with him in the theater and restaurants. He may get lynched some day- but so far noone knows it is there.

I'll take one too and yes. I have a plotter at work. Anyone local that wants one, I can hook you up.

I would actually like to get one of these... Our daughter turns 16 in a few months. I would really like to keep her from chatting on the phone while driving, but still be able to HAVE a phone.

With a jammer, she would have to pull over and get out of the car to use her cell phone. So all joking aside, do they work and how much do they cost? e.g., does the $89 ebay one actually work?

I really didn't know you could buy one when I started this. I just get so tired of people on the phone while they are holding up traffic. If there is a problem ahead, it is always someone on the phone.

Subscribing. I want one too.

Nostril Cheese 10-31-2007 07:01 AM

Jammers are technically illegal to use in the U.S. under FCC regulations (I think you can legally OWN them though, but I'm not 100% sure), although you can find them easily enough. I read an article recently about a priest in Mexico (I think) who bought one of these from the Israelis and put it in his church to get rid of the annoying problem of cell phones ringing all through the service. Pretty funny - good idea actually.

If you do a google search, you should be able to find information easily enough.

For buildings, rooms, or other enclosed areas there is a paint available with metal particles in it that form a faraday cage when you paint it on the walls/ceiling... no signals in or out
