sensless craigslist murder

Came across this disturbing story online this evening:

http://news.aol.com/story/_a/teen-charged-in-craigslist-killing/20071030141409990001

Here is a link to the police report. Anyone have any idea why they would
charge this monster with 2nd degree muder, no premeditation? He conspired the whole thing with his add on craigslist, then gunned the poor girl down with a .357 magnum...sounds pretty 'premeditated' to me.

Because he did this in Minnesota. He's charged with 2nd degree murder. I'm sure he'll plead guilty to manslaughter of some degree and then only serve 1/2 of the already light sentence. A lousy excuse for justice if you ask me. But then again, isn't it really all about "rehabilitation" anyway?

Unfortunately, similar situations have played out time and again in this state.

If I were that girl's father, I'd almost hope he'd be found innocent, and then I'd put my fate in front of another 12 :(

Agreed. He'd be innocent in my book.

It amazes me something like this hasn't happened sooner. I use Craigslist exclusively when advertising for office help/assistants. Everytime I place an ad, I receive hundreds of replies, mostly from young college girls. Some girls (typically the cute ones) go so far as to place their picture in the e-mail along with their resume (one girl included an on-line link to her modeling portfolio...for an office job  ). I set up the appointment and warn them that my office is in a run-down warehouse district, so not to be alarmed when they arrive. The warehouse is a block building with steel doors and no windows. If I were showing up at this place, I wouldn't go inside unless armed or accompanied by someone. NOT ONCE has any of the girls replying to my ads hesitated about coming inside and not one was accompanied by someone else.

I have to bite my tounge to keep from lecturing them on showing up for jobs unaccompanied or without arranging the initial meet in a more public place.

This disturbing story hits home for me. My wife is a stay at home mom; she quit her teaching job ten years ago so that our kids would never be in a "day care" and to ensure that a parent would always be home when the kids got home from school. My son is ten, my daughter is five. To earn extra spending cash, my wife often accepts evening baby sitting jobs and has taken a kid or two in our own home. Luckily, most of her jobs have been via word of mouth, and she's never responded to one of these Craiglist ads. I'll make sure she reads this story.

FWIW, my wife is the center of my universe and and I'd have no second thoughts about snuffing that little puke's life out. People ain't no good...

I know this kind of thing is nothing new, but WTF is wrong with people?!:(

Apparently this loser isn't the sharpest pencil in the box.

Why is this 2nd degree murder? Seems it was premeditated and carried out for the sole purpose of his pleasure.

SlowToady 10-31-2007 08:49 AM

Indeed. Couldn't one just ask straight off for Jury Nullification?

Honestly, in complete truth, if I was on a jury, and there was a man, A, on trial for killing man B, who killed A's wife/daughter/son/brother/sister/parents, I don't think there's any way in hell I could convict him.

What the **** happened to Karma? And, what in God's name is wrong with kids these days? With luck, he'll die some miserable death, but I wouldn't count on it.

I have no doubt this has happened many times already and has not been publicized. Tragic.

In Minnesota a prosecutor can not charge a person with first degree murder without a grand jury indictment. The second degree charge is basically acting as a place holder and a means of keeping the guy locked up with a high bail figure until such time as the grand jury can be convened. The charge will be amended at that point.

Given that this is Minnesota, he'll still get a fairly light sentence, relatively speaking. He's 19 now, I imagine he'll be out before he's 40.

This does happened:

"In 1984, karate teacher Jeffrey Doucet was arrested by FBI agents for allegedly kidnapping and molesting an 11 year old student. While he was awaiting extradition at a Louisiana airport, he was shot in the head execution-style by the victim's father right in front of a TV news crew"

The father was found not guilty by a jury of peers.

n8marx: Thanks for the clarification.

Report This! xkglady 06:48:19 AM Nov 01 2007

Report This! National Rifle Association can provide statistics on gun control and where there are more cases of gun violence, as well as the Federal Bureau of Investigation(FBI).
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>> >>>>>>>>>>>>>
The ONLY stats they show is the FAILURE of gun control. How cities and states with STRICT gun control laws have HIGHER gun crime than surrounding areas. How CRIMINALS DONT OBEY gun laws or any other laws. How GUN BANS only put honest citizens at risk. THey also show just how OFTEN firearms are used to defend against criminal predation, between two and three TIMES the number they are used in crime in the USA.
