How to handle- lost package

I need some advice on how to handle this situation. To make a long story somewhat short- I ordered a 100lb, $1000 home theater subwoofer.
I came home 10 days ago- note on door fedex cannot deliver as shipper required signature. Problem- no one is at home, I work and my wife is at an international conference for 10 days. I call fedex- no luck, no way to wave signature. I call the company I purchased it from- they admit they did not tell me that signature would be required- but they will not wave it. We agree to redirect the package to my office. Fedex tries to deliver to the house 2 more times- but as I told them no one is home. I call fedex and the selling company each time. I am told it would be delivered to the office last Monday- I am fine with that. Today, Wednesday, day 10 no package. Now fedex says they have lost the packages- both of them.
Seller wants to do nothing- tells me to sit and wait. I gave them a couple of choices. I said I'll wait until Friday- day 12 then they can:
1. Ship a new sub to the office. I will refuse this one if it ever turns up.
2. Cancel my order, I will refuse it if it ever turns up. I can buy a different sub.
3. I can cancel the charge on my credit card- but that is a hassel.
What should I expect the selling company to do?- I would like their sub but I don't want to wait endlessly while fedex tries to find it They have been lost for 4 days. The seller and fedex are offering nothing- tell me to sit and wait.
Thanks
Gary

Sit and wait. Its probably insured for $1.,000 right? Fedex has a right to be given a few days. Their fine print on the insurance probably spells out the time.

I've had more problems with FedEx then UPS. FedEx is generally operated by independent operators and everything is decentralized and up the the "drivers discretion". It is very hard to get someone accountable in situations like yours. Chances are your delivery person got sick of going to your house and never checked up on your new orders. After so many tries, he may of just left it anywhere. Hopefully it will show up.

I agree...I ship UPS over Fedex...hands down.

After receiving the "door notice" either from FedEx or UPS, I call and instruct them to "hold for customer pick-up". Then, I go in at my leisure and pick up the package at their hub. Both are nearby and open until 7p.

Too late for your situation, however...

I would notify credit card company asap. Seller needs to file a claim.

In accordance with FedEx rules, either the shipper or the intended recipient may file a claim.

Based on my experience with them, I would file a loss claim ASAP. PM me your info and I will email you the form. Complete it and send it by CERTIFIED MAIL.

FedEx places limits on the amount of time that you have to file a claim, so do this now and get their people working on it!!

That's what I do. Have done it many times for guns and expensive watches. Strangely, UPS has just left huge batches of ammo on my doorstep with no signature.

Thanks for the thoughts- I'll get going on the lost package claim.
The hub is over an hour from the house- so that doesn't work here.
I even paid extra for faster shipping-
More hassels- and I still don't have a sub!
