Toshiba is awesome
I bought my Satellite laptop in '04 and the screen still works:D

Hell, Len...I can top that! My 1950's Toshiba transistor radio still works! (EDIT) Of course, it plays only on the A.M. band...Today, laptops. Back then? Mid 50's? Transistor radios were HOT! All the kids lusted to have one, so they could plug in an earphone, listen to the radio undetected during study hall... I tried to tune in the nearest rock n' roll station. Not easy...since most stations played "hit Parade" at the time. Think Patti Page, Frank Sinatra, ect. To be able to tune in Little Richard or Fats Domino? Heaven...but it was work to do so.

Toshiba does make an excellent line of laptops. They have been at it for a long time.

We've had about 15 where I work. Zero failures, some are very old, they just keep working.

Since my thread has turned to the serious I have had two problems.
First is the power cords circuit board connection. I have resoldered it myself a dozen or so times. My wifes new powerbook has a great magnetic attaching powercord that is an excellent idea. Second is the CD drive, it basically doesn't work. I am told it's a connection issue. Other than that is a great unit that never crashes and is very quick. |
Laptops take such a beating. I've always wondered why more companies don't make a rugged laptop like the Panasonic Toughbook. I would think that would be ideal for a college student.

Great idea Dave, my next repair will include that. |
I had a Toshiba Satellite back in the '90s when they cost over $2K. When I tried to first use it the CD drive didn't work, and there was another problem which I can't remember exactly what it was right noe. When I called their tech support, it was down hill from then on. They would (sort of) resolve one problem but cause others. The thing never did work completely right.

Umm, the optical drive doesn't work. I call that a doorstop, not a computer ;) ANd you've had to resolder a part a dozen times? Man, the windoze world really does beat down your expectations :p |
