We almost had a really bad accident

So i go to Kauai for 12 days and on the first day On a 2 lane road some idiot decides he is going reach for something, he is coming head on into me, My wife screams and I go off road into the grassy shoulder at 30-35mph I miss a tree, then I miss a telephone pole and elec box. I hear a nasty collision behind me, the Hawaiian dude behind me hits the idiot head on..WTF more to followhttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1194583839.jpg

Glad to hear you came out OK, hope no one else was hurt.

If not, I hope you hurt the idiot; ah, kidding.

Danny_Ocean 11-08-2007 07:55 PM

 Nice save! Did you squeeze between that pole and guy-wire?

Jays72T 11-08-2007 08:07 PM

Threading the needle there, very nice driving. Really makes you realize how dangerous driving is.

126coupe 11-08-2007 08:10 PM

I know from driving racecars for 10 years saved my wifes life at the least.
You can see by the pics I was 1/16th of an inch from hitting something, The mini van driver who caused the accident, was injured, the impact from the dude behind me spun the mini van around and he hit another tree and the passenger glass breaking lacerated his arm bad.
The old hawaiian dude( who was behind me) thought he was having a heart attack, the wife stayed w him so he could take his pills, he seemed to be OK another driver who was behind the mini van driver attended to to him and commpressed his wounds.

I walked around my PT crusier in a daze looking for damage, I could not believe it NO Damage.more to followhttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1194584750.jpg

Wow, that is some stunt driving! Your decision to not take it up on two wheels after glancing off the tree was probably good. I'm sure in that split second you calculated that it wouldn't fit that way. Chuck Norris would be proud of your driving skills!

Danny_Ocean 11-08-2007 08:25 PM

Dayum! That's a good demonstration of reaction/reflex/skill there. I'll bet if you drop Minkoff from a roof, he'll land on his feet.

126coupe 11-08-2007 08:25 PM

The pictures of the PT Cruiser driving through that hole are amazing.
We went back to the scene 3 days later( after many Mai Tais) and I could barley fit the car through there at 1/2 mph(I was doing 30-35mph during the accident). WTF My wife think is was a God Send. Maybe

On a another note I totaled my tow vehicle (Dually) returning my trailer to storage 3 weeks ago after racing in Vegas, again not my fault. Some Dousch Bag lost control in the fast lane on the 241 toll road, he fishtailed and spun across 2 lanes right in front of my heavy truck and trailer, I hit him hard w my RF in his LF ( proof that he was sideways) spun him he bounced off my PASS door and hit the right guardrail. WTF Truck is totalled...more to come

Whats wierd is I never hit the tree, I should have ripped the side off the car

BlueSideUp 11-08-2007 08:29 PM

Maybe you shouldn't be driving for a while! Is it safer driving inside the gates at Coto? You might want to limit yourself until your karma improves.

And how do you lose control on the 241? Definitely qualifies for douche bag status.

I watched it happen, right before the toll booth north bound before the 133, he closed on a slower car in the fast lane, locked his brakes , fished tailed and flew across the 241 right in my path. Funny you should say stay in coto. I am leaving for Willow springs in the am to race all weekend. The good news is, my buddy picked my racecar up this morning and hauled it willow., concidering my tow vehicle is sitting in a bodyshop not looking too good.

That's pretty bad. Is the truck a total? Did your trailer come out all right? It sucks when you've maintained a vehicle really well and it ends up getting totaled. The insurance company just looks at KBB or NADA value...they don't care so much about condition.

Total Loss, trailer is OK POS AIG is giving me $5,000.00, they suck
I have owned this truck for 9 years, 2nd owner. New factory transmission 500 miles ago(2,000.00). Not to mention all the preventive maint. thats done.
I am going to fix it though, it will cost me an additional 3-4K.
Can you believe it, No fault accident, I am out of pocket 3-4K and own a salvaged vehicle.

That sucks about your truck -- what a raw deal. I'm still amazed by the Hawaian non-accident, though. I can't imagine how you managed to miss the tree, then thread the pole-wire needle at 35mph. I don't think I'd have the balls for that at 1/2mph!

Maybe I'll use this as evidence that I should spend more time at the track? "Listen, Honey, this other guy, who does a lot of track time, saved his wife's life...."

Minkoff,

Nice alert driving with the PT.
Sorry about the truck. You must be seriously wondering about your driving karma.

Keep your heads up out there guys and remember:
If you don't think driving is dangerous, just think about this. There are two miles of ditch for every mile of road.

Mark, that's nothing but pure REFLEX. . . just like sawing at the wheel of the '67! :) Glad everybody OK.

the 11-09-2007 07:10 AM

that looks like a cartoon car you were driving, maybe it made itself skinny as it passed through the gap?

sammyg2 11-09-2007 07:19 AM

it would have been better if you did it backwards ;)

Great story.

Is that electrical box flipping you off?
