Looks like I'm going to experience Apple...

for the first time in years. Boss just called and wants an iMac hooked up to their home network so they can VPN into the work network and work. This will be my first real experience of OSX...possibly it will convert me? It might if the hype the fanboys push turns out to be not just hype. I really hope it goes smoothly, especially so I don't look like an idiot in front of the boss.

Luckily, MS decided to make things easy for me and write a Mac based Remote Desktop client. So, all I have it do, is set the machine up, compile some open source VPN connection software, and install the Mac Remote Desktop. And here I was nearly expecting a nightmare.

My next work nightmare? Installing and configuring a PBX. Never touched one before; I guess this is as good a time to learn as any.

OSX, I'm ready to be impressed!

Depending on your VPN setup you may not need to compile anything.

It'll do L2TP over IPSEC and PPTP out of the box.

Just run the Internet Connect app, feed it the VPN info and you're done.

You may want to try a different VNC.

Plenty of them out there for OS X

OS X is not bad. I´m a wintel guy myself. I have been running OS X for about a month.
My job is supporting Windows based networks, so it was a challenge for me to see if I could use a Mac.
In fact it does the job just fine. Microsoft´s RDP client for OS X is OK, but I prefer CoRD.
As for VPN, I´m running Cisco´s VPN client for Mac OS X. Works like a charm.
My experience so far tells me that I can do fine without MS products, which is OK to know.
I´m still not a convert though, but I´m impressed.

I just talked to the boss, and they're cool with paying for the Cisco VPN software and the VNC client, so I guess I"ll just go with those:-P Was supposed to set it up today, but they didn't pick it up for some reason. I think they're waiting until the home office is done. Still got that PBX to install tomorrow, and I was fighting with WinXP WPA-PSK problems for almost an hour. Crazyness....

Money's good though....
