GPS receivers advice
Keep getting lost in TX.
Need to pick up a couple of GPS units for me and wife so looking to keep cost low, $250 max per piece. Tom Tom 1 or Magellen Maestro 3100 or other suggestions.

I only have experience with two units.
Over the summer I bought a Magellan Roadmate 2200. I really liked it, but it had two instances where it couldn't get me where I wanted to go. One was a new neighborhood (not surprising) but one was where it missed a road that had been there for years. All it needed was a map update but none were available so I sold it to a neighbor one week later. I then replaced it with a Garmin 330 that I bought at Circuit City for about $250. I got a free map update with the purchase and have been very pleased with it. Never missed a turn yet, including a trip last summer where I drove from here to NY, then to ME, and back home. BB.

Had a small Mio GPS recently and liked it very much. Might try one of those.

Thanks Joe,
Had seen those on the retail sites but had not heard of them yet. Went to BB earlier. Garmins seem to load and react the fastest, TomTom was slow, Magellen in between with nice features and good UI. Need to find the Mio and play with it.

Magellan 4040 w/AAA database built in - $300 @ COSCO. Good price, even if you have to buy a membership; $50, but AMEX card w/$25 credit comes with it and they give you another card worth $10 to spend - sooo, costs $15 to join.

DO NOT buy a Garmin Nuvi unless bad directions and getting lost are things you like.
Go with a Magellin. I have a 3 year old Magellin that kicks my Nuvi's butt.
