911 window switches suck!!!--my son's fingers pinched today

Curse those crappy switches!!!!

I had the PS working flawlessly. I had been having trouble with the lowering bit.

I ordered a new one a while and it had been working just fine.

Today, we were in the car and I went to lower the window some more for him but hit up by mistake. Jake's index and middle finger were on the top of the glass and got pinched. I had left the window cracked while we in the store. I moved the switch to down but it didn't effing work. I tried a couple of more times but there was nothing. I ended up pulling his fingers out myself. He was screaming in pain the whole time.

This is the first real trauma with him involving an injury so I'm kind of freaked but I know that he will be ok. I don't think it's broken but it's scraped from me pulling.

My wife thought he should get it looked at so they are at the urgent care place up the street.

He kept asking, "Daddy, why did you do that?"

I tried explaining that that's why we don't put our fingers out of the window unless Mommy or Daddy say it's ok but I stopped the lecture and just told him it will be ok.

I'm not looking for advice. I guess I just needed to let it out a bit.

He's back from the doc. Nothing broken, thank goodness. The doc taped up his fingers and put some medicine on the scrape.He's back to playing already and he doesn't seem to be mad at me.

I'd better start practicing for if/when he REALLY hurts something.

I know I broke bones and bled ALOT when I was growing so I can only expect the same.

Now, to figure out the switch problem.

them window motors weigh to much anyway... loose em, it's called the added lightness upgrade.

He is running around like nothing happened now. Kids.....

He did tell me "Dad, I know my fingers getting squished was an accident so you shouldn't feel sad about it. They will be better in a couple of days".

Our BMW windows would stop if anything was in the path.

Stuff happens. I always hated the window switches...especially when mine was stuck in the down position and it started pouring down rain. I spent the next 40 miles on the freeway getting a nice interior wind/rain shower until it finally decided to work again.

Thankfully kids are quick to forgive. But he'll remember this and use it against you many years in the future

I found the problem and fixed it.

The 2 brown wires on the PS switch located on the driver's door were loose at the connector. I could actually duplicate the symptoms so I knew this was the cause.

I cut them, put on a new spade connector, shrinktubed them and it all works as intended. I think the issue was that the wires would get moved when I pushed the switch back into the door causing the sporadic working. It works every time now and my son even checked it out. I explained what I did (in 5 YO terms) and he was pretty happy. He suggested we "just take these windows out until I get older" but I told him that probably wasn't the best idea.
