looking for good thoughts for my niece... (Please Read)
 

Keep in mind I am not a religious person per-se, but in times like this I ask the higher being to smile down.

My Niece, Rori McKee Who is almost 6 months old went in for heart surgery yesterday to repair some heart malformations she was born with. She lives with her mother and father in Surprise Arizona, where they are both stationed at the U.S. Air Force Base. She seemed to be doing well shortly after the surgery, but over the evening took a turn for the worse. At this point, the doctors are not sure she will make it as her body is not recovering well.

I will try to post more info as it becomes available.

Please keep her in mind, and think positive thoughts for her.

Sorry to hear this. We deal a lot with the pre surgery diagnostics and preparation of kids in this situation. The post surgical outcome is of course depending on how severe and complex the malformation is but I have to say the success rate is high and it is rare that it goes really bad. There is often a transitory period immediately after surgery though when circulation in particularly the lung vessels stabilizes.

I sincerely hope it goes well.

I've always been thankful for doctors, nurses and modern medicine since my first daughter was born via C-section. If we hadn't been so blessed by the staff at the hospital, I would have likely walked out of there without my wife and my daughter, and never had our second daughter. Since that day I have a real hard time hearing about situations like yours without getting choked up.

You and your family are in my prayers. I do hope that it turns out OK for her. No matter how it turns out, it's important for you and your family to appreciate what a special person she is. Some times a person's impact on the world isn't measured by how long they are here, but by how they were able to touch people's hearts, and bring people together. It sounds like your niece has already accomplished more then many of us.

Your niece and family are in our prayers. In her short 6 months on earth so far, she's definitely touching hearts and lives, not only your family and close friends, but people all over the world.

Please, keep us updated!

Has a few things going for her
#1-She is a girl, infants and neonate girls do better than boys, stronger. Ask any NICU nurse.
#2-Little babies are a lot tougher than you think they are.
#3-She is in the US, no matter how much people may bash our healthcare, it is outstanding for stuff like this.

I hear you there! Our daughter was born via emergency c-section due to fetal-distress, and I consider myself lucky everyday I get to hold her!

It's really tough on my wife right now, as she is still is school (ya, I married young the second time). If we could, we would fly out there in a second, but this is her last semester before her student teaching... Leave it to a major college to not allow for "family leave"!! All we can do at this point is hope for the best. It truely sucks being half way across the county from family!
