drill out the cores?
small drill, then increase the diameter till you can bend, twist, pry out the rest

If it's a mag light brand, you can remove both the front and the back end...then maybe soak with PB blaster & push?

When I was a kid, battery companies would guarantee against leakage, would replace a damaged flashlight. I don't know if they do that these days.

Yes, if it's a real mag, both ends come off. See if you have a socket in your tool kit that's the same i.d. and push through.

Or, do what I did. Toss it and get a new one.

Place the entire tube in the freezer overnight (perhaps a few hours will do) then heat the aluminum shell with a torch or heat gun. The aluminum shell will expand very quickly(and quite a bit) and the batteries should drop right out.

I don't think a real Mag light is open from one end to the other, the drill and freezer trick do work. Mag light guarantees their flashlights except for battery leakage.

The one right here next to my computer is open both ends. Genuine MAG.

So there!

Just switched my 3 cell to LED. Pretty cool. They don't make an LED yet for my 6 cell.

Like I said earlier...the warranty wasn't from the flashlight company, but the BATTERY company....when I was a kid, I got more than one free flashlight from everready.

What brand of battery?
From the Energizer website: "We will repair or replace, at our
option, any device damaged by this battery if it is sent with batteries to Energizer.
Guarantee void if user or device recharges battery."

For all the work to get the batteries out I would throw it away and get a new one. The new LED kits work good , I got one as well.

Yes, genuine Mag lights open on both ends. I own multiple ones, large and small; they all do. Can you just open it up and brat the old cr@p out with a length of pipe. If I had to go into freezing/heating/drilling...I'd toss the damned thing. $20 gets you a 2-"D" cell here....a bit more for a 3 cell.

Did you consider that just maybe the batteries didn't swell but rather everything else in the universe shrunk except for the batteries?

Take both ends off the light, put Mr. Happy in there and then slap a little cratch. Things should expand on their own and pop those batteries right out!

The LED's were a joke for a long time and most still are, but there's some nice stuff that actually works these days. We're using the iNova T4's and, more recently, the Tiablo A9's (250 lumens LED ) Good source/prices for lights:

Actually, putting things that don't fit in places they don't belong is more like Dubya's problem.
