Rental, big screen, TV, on cable and so forth.............what have you seen, what do you recommend?

This weekend I happened to rent one of the best movies I've seen in a while. Very off-beat and on a disturbing topic, not for everyone. Excellent cast and characters.

A comedy which will make you cry, very deep and moving.

Running with Scissors

Quote:

Based on the memoir Running with Scissors by Augusten Burroughs, the film is a semi-autobiographical account of Burroughs' childhood. His (Joseph Cross) mother (Annette Bening) (a poet with delusions of Anne Sexton) gave him away to be raised by her unorthodox psychiatrist, Dr. Finch (Brian Cox), an eccentric man with an eccentric family.

At the age of twelve, Burroughs found himself in Victorian squalor living with the doctor’s bizarre family and befriending Neil Bookman (Joseph Fiennes), Finch's 33-year-old adopted son. The two soon begin an open and consensual sexual relationship.

The story is one of an outlaw childhood where rules were unheard of, and the Christmas tree is kept up all year round, where Valium was consumed like candy, and if things got dull an electroshock-therapy machine could provide entertainment.

As Good As It Gets. Jack Nicholson 1997. Always makes me feel Good.

One of Jack´s lines describing a typical woman:

"I think of a man - and then take away reason and accountability."

I can't remember the director, but I saw a B movie called "French Maids". I know it sounds like porn. It wasn't. I mean, yeah, it did have some nudity and lez action, but it was art. Yeah, art. Seriously, it wasn't porn. Actually kind of a messed up movie.

Also check out Deathstalker II, if you can find it. Tongue-in-cheek b-movie that makes fun of itself relentlessly and truly should be labeled comedy.

Saw "No Country for Old Men" this weekend. Typical Coen brothers and quite interesting...don't go if you like nice, neat endings.

"Fido" is a quirky take on zombie films.

"Infernal Affairs" should not be missed. Makes "The Departed" look like a bad copy. Which it was.
