Maui - Best spots for Family Vacation
Hi,
We're looking to go to Maui in Jan. - Feb. 08 and we are trying to find a nice place to stay. We stayed at Sugar Beach when we got married there, but that was 8 years ago. I liked it's location in the middle of the island so you could go either was on the island. This would be a family vacation with 2 - 4 year olds so kid friendly is helpful. I would want at a minimum a kitchen, Internet access, bar-b-q and ocean front. I don't mind paying a little more for a better room, but you only sleep there right? And yes I know it's peak season so we'll pay more. If anyone has some good recommendations or a condo they wanted to rent would appreciate it. Looking to hear both pros and cons of all places. Thanks in advance

Napili Beach. Safe for small kids, fish to see with Looki Boards/Snorkling. Took our small kids there for a few years in a row. Highly recommended.

Lahaina Shores Beach Resort, a very nice place, not expensive, THE only place on the beach in Lahaina. Kitchens and large rooms, great beach and pool. Walk all over Lahaina, park your car in their lot and enjoy the walk around town. Plenty of things to do from the harbor and great places to eat. Golf is just about five miles up the coast at the Kanapali, send the wife and kids shopping and do the golf. Submarine rides, sunset cruise, more than enough to do. You will need a car to get around but not in Lahiana. Look it up on Google Earth.

Check out Napili Bay Resort #110; Napili Bay #115 and Napili Bay #116(this site has the best photos of the little condo development) on Google. We stayed in #116 and it is max of 3 people, but #110 and #115 sleep 4. It is a fantastic spot, no hi-rises in sight, sandy crescent beach, palm trees, and you look across the straight at Molokai(about 10 miles away). In the winter there are whales breaching out there. There is a great breakfast spot just next door on the beach, and a snorkel and boogy board rental spot(Bob's) the other way one property. It is a short drive to the restaurants and Lahaina for shopping and a luau, or a catamaran cruise. Not a lot of traffic, either.

I can highly recommend Puamana Resort. It is just south of Lahaina, easy walking/biking distance to the city. Stayed there the last 2 times we went to Maui. Another nice thing is it is behind a security gate.
http://www.vacation-maui.com/Puamana_Resort/Puamana_Resort_Overview.php I don't really like the heavy winds either in the Northern area-Kaanapali or Southern areas Kihei/Wailea/Makena. Lahaina = less wind. I can also recommend stopping by Costco and loading up or you can easily blow a lot of money on eating out all the time. Our view from the condo this summer..notice beach and bbq!! ![]() Looking down the beach... ![]() Rent bikes from Island Riders and surfboards from Boss Frog's. Best deal is by the week. We already booked at Puamana for next year. If you do so before you leave it saves you 10%....and the you will not absorb a price hike if there is one.

My family has stayed at these condos about 6 times in the past 10 years. They are nicely equipped and have a nice beach and pool. The pictures on their site kind of suck.
I agree with the Costco part.

My family and I have stayed at the Kaanapali Alii for the last seven years.
We go the week before Thanksgiving each year. I'm here right now! Jess |

We've stayed at condos in Elua Village down in Wailea several times, though it has been a few years. Booked through destinationresorts.com at the time
Halimali General Store (upslope) is a great spot for lunch or dinner and very kid-friendly. Enjoy!
