How many of you have been sniped on ebay?

I was just bidding on a car and was going to win with 10 seconds to go and then BAM prices goes up a bunch, I am trying to get my POS windows O/S pc to respond quickly and then the auction ends and I lost... nice huh?

Has this happened to any of you?

Never since eBay had the maximum bid thing.

If someone outbids me, it was more than I was to pay.

speedracing944 11-26-2007 06:14 PM

I will let you know in an hour. I am currently high bidder on an item.

Legion,
It's a little something something for your old 944S.

Speedy:)

Sounds like a computer problem, not an E-bay problem.

I've been sniped plenty, and I've dished it out too. I think its enjoyable.

I also never put in an even dollar amount for an item. If I think it's worth $10.00, I put in $11.86 as a maximum bid. Most snipers put in things like $10.01 for their maximum bids...

I'm curious...

I quit ebay once I figured out that it's the world's biggest fencing operation.

Never been "sniped." Because there's no such thing as "sniping."

You bid the maximum amount you are willing to pay, and it is impossible to get "sniped."

Moses 11-26-2007 06:40 PM

I ALWAYS snipe. My first (and only) bid goes in 5 seconds before the auction ends. I use bidnip.com Free and easy. I never have to watch an auction.

+1

I have to agree with the. If you put in the max you want to spend, how in the hell can you get "sniped"? What's the point in bidding at the last second if someone previously entered a higher price than your snipe bid?

red-beard 11-26-2007 06:49 PM

The "problem" with Ebay, is that it is supposed to be a silent auction, but it really is setup to maximize the price by a bunch of people bidding back and forth. I use Sniping to turn it back to a Silent Auction. I put in one bid, the maximum I'm willing to pay, to go in at the end. If I win, I win. If I don't, I didn't want to spend more than that to win. It enforces bid discipline and prevents me from getting a "I must have it at any price" mindset.

Gogar 11-26-2007 06:55 PM

It's not eBay, James. You just need to
SET IT, AND FORGET IT.

How is that sniping tho--that's just entering your highest bid--not trying to start anything here--

mjshira 11-26-2007 06:58 PM

I figured. :D

I like how gunbroker does it. Auctions don't end until the bidding stops. No sniping ever.
