Lamborghini driver makes the news for 219 mph on Phoenix freeway

Pretty cool, huh? Go out and make a video of yourself going 219 on a freeway. I guess the cool was quenched when the local news posted the video. It got pulled from YouTube by the person who posted it. Let's see... how many gold Gallardos can there be in Phoenix. I bet they have this guy behind bars by the weekend.

The story.

The video.

That's nuts! And a good way to lose your $350K car.

(That's not a Gallardo, BTW, it's a Murcielago).

Fast is fun. But that's stupid. Things like pebbles, cracks in the road, insects,

OH YEAH, I forgot. OTHER CARS,

Will ruin your life at 200 mph.

And if he kills himself, good. But if he kills you or me or some soccer mom or something, not so good.

Probably his dad's car. Or he works at a stereo shop, and it was in to get some speakers. No offense, Brian!

so how fast is OK?

I gotta find a track......... and soon!
I love the TT, but man it goes way too fast.
one second I'm doing 75 - 80 MPH and the next I'm doing 125 - 150 MPH.
and it handles so beautifully.
Maybe I should try and get a limiter put in it?
I've had it over 200 but was all alone on a stretch of hwy with no one around, as soon as the digital speedo hit 305Km/h I let it off, there was room for more though.

My dad had a mini-bar in his car. The cops use to tell me, "straight home".
Today, that's just totally unacceptable; wouldn't ever happen.

Speeding has become unacceptable today too. What to do?

Dunno. But evidently 132mph was 'OK' for me the other night

Standard Boxster (986) will pull like a train in 4th up to 130ish, but then it starts to get winded. 160 is out there somewhere, but it would take some space....

Lamborgini Murcielagos are well known for their electronic glitches with the on board computer.

Here in the UK there is one Lambo that clocked 262mph on the M40.... yeah right.

Clearly he's going fast... But the top speed for a Murci is 210mph...

And this does not look like a LP640.

305 km/h is 188mph. It takes forever to go from 188mph to above 200mph... even with 150 more hp and a better coefficient of drag

That is a good point!
How fast is too fast ???

Ridiculous speeds I would prefer to be seen on a track.
speeding ... well, I do that ever day. I can not and will not to my best intention drive 50kmh on a regular road unless the over head camera is there or there is a cop behind me. Sorry but 31 mph is a real drag!

errr, that is the regular speed limit for most large roads in Japan. We got some stretches of 60 kph and 100 kph for the highway ... but ... come on. 50kph in the middle of no where!

And the Japanese police keep blaming speed as the cause of the larger share of accidents! Can you imagaine driving though most of Arizona at only 37 mph?

The police have been given the power to take your vehicle on the spot for one week if you are caught 50km/hr over in Ontario now. Certainly in Toronto, where traffic density is some of the heaviest in NA, I can see it being a serious concern, but I can't believe you don't even get your day in court, the cops just take the car on the spot. So much for innocent until proven guilty.

I would like to think we will get a rash of new tracks to give people some freedom, but I doubt that will happen. We have had one new track in 25 years, as I understand it (Calabogie). Too bad the legal climate (and the financial concerns) preclude the building of more Nordschliefe's.

Whatever the situation, even on a track, not many places someone can hit 219mph.

220 on public roads can be very dangerous but looks like he did it when no one else was at risk

Agreed. Plus in some places 220 is legal and the roads are much narrower than these....

So where exactly is 220 mph legal?

That's an insane road speed. You would even be nailed on the Autobahn for reckless driving if you were clocked at that speed.

Nope you would not. It's an insane speed. But on the Autobhan is legal. And the Autobahn is often 2-lane with big trucks overtaking each other.

If he can afford a lambo he can afford to take it to the track for his jollies.
I hope they catch him and take away his car and license.

Yep, impound the car, sell it, and give the proceeds to Toys for Tots.

There is no speed limit you are right - but I guarantee you that you will be nailed if you drive by a German cop at 320kmh.
