Good help is hard to find

A project has been taking 2 of my employees an unreasonably long time these last few weeks. Tonight when I went to check things out I found them both sound asleep in their car. It only took me about a minute to realize they were both either high or drunk..... or both. I am disgusted by this behavior and let down at the same time. No wonder this damn company is going under. I dislike firing people but this time it won’t be as hard.

I found it hard to fire the first few times. It's not so hard now. I find hiring more difficult. Last time, I hired a subcontractor that was disgusted with the overhead of running his own business. He has been my most dedicated employee ever.

I agree good Mexicans are hard to find these days. They are too busy waiting in line at B of A to get their credit card or in line at the DMV to get their drivers license.

I do agree! Finding good help is indeed difficult!!!

However, they are just employees.
Do you own the company?
If so then it is obvious they won't have nearly the same ambition that you have :(

I hear where you are coming from! I don't have those problems but I still have to deal with the pay : work ratio since many employees feel they deserve more money.

To be fair though, how much baby sitting have you been doing? Are they being paid fairly? Is their work environment challenging enough for them?

I try to give my employees a large share of personal judgment. For example, if they need to purchase something to make their job easier I just say "use you judgement" and then eat the bills that they bring back for me to pay. If they want to change something, I just say "let me know".

Of course, there are those times that I shake my head and ask myself why did I let that happen!?!?!

However, if those 2 blokes are that bad put them on probation since it's holidays and if they can't clean up their ways by the new year let them know you'll have 2 new blokes to replace them.

I hope that things get better for you!

Laying someone off is hard when they are a good worker. Firing a deserving jackass is almost fun.

I used to hate firing as much as laying off but now I enjoy firing someone as much as Ari Gold does.

I'm a "good Mexican" that already has his credit card and his driver's license.

Oh, sorry...on review I guess slakjaw didn't mention a thing about ethnicity and neither did anyone else until tabs took the opportunity to make a bigotted remark. Of course employees caught asleep on the job that are suspected of being high just HAVE to be "mexicans" huh tabs?

Outstanding firing! Yup, of course firing the WRONG PERSON with that much flair is particularly special.

Jim that is one of my favorite Entourage moments ever.

I let them both go. And this afternoon my boss said "we are giving them another chance"

They are paid 30 per hour... to sleep.

Then I end up working weekends to catch up. I work for one of the Telephone company's and I was so excited to start here because there's no union.
