Our State is not PC

Just got this email from the Governor:

"From: Governor Blunt

To: All Missouri State Employees

Date: November 29, 2007

Re: "Merry Christmas!"

Dear State Employee:

Merry Christmas!

I hope that I am among the first to wish a Merry Christmas to you, your family, and friends!

As most of us know, some question the appropriateness of saying "Merry Christmas!" particularly by government employees.

By my directive, as a government employee, you need not worry about this strange effort to undermine the historical foundation of this wonderful time of the year into an arid "Winter Break". You need not check your religious views at the door, nor your affection for the season, nor the use of its ancient, time-honored greetings. The directive I have given to all executive agencies provides that no state employee will be reprimanded or disciplined in any way for saying "Merry Christmas."

Please enjoy the holiday season!

Feel free to spread your cheer by wishing your colleagues -- and especially the Missourians we all serve -- a Merry Christmas!

Sincerely,

Matt Blunt"

I'm glad someone still has his senses.

livi 11-29-2007 11:31 AM

Say what?

In where would the harm in saying 'Merry Chrismas' lie?

Right. I get it. Itīs a joke! No..?

You Americans you! :D

Rikao4 11-29-2007 11:36 AM

Well Livi,
we might offend a Muslie or two..
note..some teacher stands to be jailed or flogged..for allowing her KINDERGARTEN crew to name a Teddy
Moho..

Aha! I thought as much. Same reason school semester finals are not allowed in Church here anymore. The poor &%%ĪĪ# muslies may find it offensive. We canīt have that. God forbid someone might think us racists! Donīt get me started..

No, seriously. This country is so obsessed with making everyone happy and equal (no child left behind) that our legislators are making us a vanilla society so no one is offended. I once worked at a shop where they played Muzak on the radio. When I asked why they played such awful "music" the answer was "not everyone likes the same music so to make everyone happy we play Muzak". So basically, we can't make everyone equally happy so we'll make everyone equally miserable.

haha, I used to send Christmas Cards to my Jewish friends ... after I sent them I was like (ooooops!).
Not one of them ever complained. I actually got a few back too!

ugh, this PC business is getting out of hand :(

I think I'll go eat BBQ Pork for dinner tonight.
Great to see some people in Government still use common sense and willing to say "Merry Christmas!"
Thanks for sharing!!!

I am having a Hannuka, Christmas and KwongZa parties at my house this holiday. Not kidding, 2nd Hannukah party, 7th KwongZa and been doing Christmas as long as I could remember.

I am neither Jewish, Christian nor Black. Next year, I will do Ramadan, not the fasting part, just the party part :) It is all good.

Merry Christmas! I like your Gov.

What is the "party part" of Ramadan involve??

ianc 11-29-2007 07:37 PM

Hmmm... I'm usually the biggest PC hater there is, but this seems a little like bear-baiting to me.

It's so easy to say 'Happy Holidays', then there's no worries. It just seems like a recognition of the fact that not everyone's white anglo-saxon christian. Or have I been living in CA too long?

From wikipedia "....everyone puts on their best, preferably new, clothes, and communal prayers are held in the early morning, followed by feasting and visiting relatives and friends."

I will skip the prayer part :p Pretty much a big feast with friends and family, must have lamb and other tasty mid-east/Malay/Indonesian dishes. mmmm.

I'm no mtherfking Muslim and I FIND "Merry Christmas" being mentioned on this Board to be offensive.

Porsche-O-Phile 11-30-2007 03:05 AM

A politician giving everyone a "feel good", something to smile and be happy about and to let their guard down a bit?

He must be fixin' to raise taxes soon.

Moneyguy1 11-30-2007 07:34 AM

Yes.....Keith beat me to it......

MERRY CHRISTMAS, TABS.......

Deal with it.

sammyg2 11-30-2007 08:22 AM

I like the way that governor thinks, but he's prolly on the way out. The blood-sucking parasite lawyers will be fighting over the chance to sue him and the state for discrimination.
The sad part is they would win, at least in California they would. Too many liberal judges out here. Hopefully your state has more common sense.
