I know absolutely NOTHING about Alfa's either but I admit to being attracted to them for some reason (inherently good taste in cars?:D)

Anyway, what is this picture of? Model, likely year and even minimal stats would be much appreciated.

(Sorry Bob, Hope I didn't hijack just added some additional info.

I believe it's an Alfetta GTV2000 (or maybe a GTV6 - can't see if there's a hood bulge), 1975 - 1986. IIRC '86 may have been the last year that Alfas were imported into the U.S. for sale (edit; oops, I think that was Maserati). I love the mark but I believe cars of this era had QC problems.

Any Alfaholics/Alfisti out there?

A friend of mine had one of the modern sedans just before they stopped selling them in the USA... the steering came unbolted while he was driving on the freeway.

He managed to stop the car ok.

Definitely a marque that has "love-hate" ownership...my good friend just sold this perfect '92, he complained that it was gutless but a "nice" car:

and he bought.....drum roll....an '88 Targa!

1995 Alfa pull out.

The last to US was the 164 - four door sedan. V. nice car, V6.

Was FWD but handled very well. Based on Lancia platform.

I had an '83 GTV/6. To put it mildly, the cars of this era had quality problems. So much so that I wouldn't take an Alfa if you gave me one for nothing. The customer support from the company was nothing to write home about either.

Alfa had a variety of names for the body style, depending on the year. First it was an Alfetta GT, then a Sprint Veloce & finally, (now with a V6 engine) a GTV6. I believe they were 1st imported into the US around '75 & the final models were imported around '86. I could be a little off on the years.

I don't know what year this car is -- I just grabbed the photo on the Internet somewhere. I don't think it is a GTV6 because I think they had a bulge on the hood to clear the larger engine. So it is proably a late '70s or early '80s car. Someone else here probably knows the years better than I do.

Cool cars. They have a lot of soul. The tach is right in front of the driver, while the other gauges, including the speedo are in the middle of the dash.

The GTV Alfetta's and GTV-6 body was designed by Giugiaro. Above is the 4 cylinder Alfetta, as FastCar points out the hood. In 81-86, it got a V6 (called the GTV-6), you can tell by the better interior, font grille and the bulge with a small plastic panel on the hood to accommodate the larger engine. If you've ever heard the GTV-6 engine, do a search on youtube, they were heavenly.
