Absolutely INSANE base jumping video!

Some of you have probably seen this already, maybe even posted on this board...
However, I just saw it for the first time and wanted to share. This is absolutely the craziest extreme sport I think I've ever seen!

Check out the most extreme base jumping ever caught on video with guy's wearing the "Mountain Wingsuit!":eek::eek:

:eek::eek::eek:

I watch that.

I think "thats insane, they are nuts."

I watch again-

I think "I want to try that- you only live once".

Then I think "No, that's insane".

Repeat.

+1 on the insane part...

Those guys are not from this world if you ask me.

Man that is crazy!! incredible control to do those flips and turns like that.

I've jumped out of perfectly good airplanes, but this.......... those are men.

livi 12-01-2007 01:28 AM

Those guys canīt possibly have a normal neuro signal system. Looks fun but completely wacked. But who knows, maybe it is perfectly safe.

in a way it makes sense, there are always updrafts near those mountans, glider pilots use the same thing to gain altitude in the mountans

there's another video of a similar thing, of a guy zooming down a snowy mountain
i think it's even more radical, as he has no way out but to follow it downhill

the ones in the top post could still peel off away from the mountain, this one can't

My skydiving buddy sent me this vid awhile back and said, cmon lets do this. He's really serious. But then again, he has one base jump under his belt, and that's off of Angel Falls in Venezuela. Yeah, he's a nut. So, we'd have to camp out at Perris Valley and jump our brains out for a week, then get wingsuits and jump our brains out for another week or two. Then we could go for something like this. Hmmmmmmmm.

dayum. just dayum.

Unreal. The wingsuit itself looks fun, wonder why all parachuter's don't use them?

CJFusco 12-01-2007 07:07 AM

That is pretty amazing. And here I thought Bear Grylls was nuts with his flying-contraption-over-Everest scheme...

TheMentat 12-01-2007 08:49 AM

pretty amazing... but one gust of wind would make for a really bad day!

ckissick 12-01-2007 12:54 PM

They should try strapping on a hull-shaped contraption to their chest and land on a lake without using the parachute. Just skim across the water until they stop. That would be cool.

flashgordon13 12-01-2007 01:05 PM

I've done some crazy things but there is nothing in these videos that triggers the "wow that looks like fun". I was scared just sitting here in front of the computer. Forget about me ever trying that stuff. I supose I may be just getting too old to be that adveturous but good luck to anyone who wants to try it.

not so far fetched as it may seem

lifting body

in theory, i don't see why it couldn't work
all it takes is the right material, shape
and somebody with 2 cohones the size of a bowling balls

syncroid 12-01-2007 01:17 PM

Both of those videos are nuts! Looks like fun but one mess up and its over. I picture a bug hitting the windsheild.

t951 12-01-2007 03:00 PM

Could you theoretically fly until you were out of energy and sort of just land....you know go parallel to the ground at a high angle of attack until you could just sort of walk it out....

I am curious if you can do that and not actually deploy the chute..

PatrickB 12-01-2007 03:03 PM

Hmmm... The stall speed of the Wingsuit? Yikes!

WolfeMacleod 12-01-2007 03:30 PM

I'd do it, in a heartbeat.

My wife said I can't, cause I got no life insurance.:(
So..where can I get 1M life insurance?

Rob Channell 12-01-2007 03:33 PM

Wow. I agree with the insanity declarations.

Some of it reminds me of the Jet man. http://www.jet-man.com/prod/index.html
He does it with a large wing and 4 small Jet Cat engines strepped on his back.l

One of my customer's wive's friends used to go base jumping in college. She currently has the distinction of being the ONLY person to ever survive a cutaway from a particular bridge. A cutaway is cutting away from your main chute(because of a tangle, etc) and then opening your backup chute. There is usually not time for this in the base jumping hobby.

Nuts.
