Best way to get ringtones, wallpaper, etc

So, what's the best way to get that stuff. I don't want a ton of crap on my phone, and it's a pretty basic, used nokia that I got off of ebay, but I like to personalize my phones a tad. In the past I've had Iron Butterfly "Inna gadda da vida" as a ringtone. I once created and uploaded the Porsche crest to a website that then allowed me to send the image to my phone to use as wallpaper. Unfortunately that website appears to have died.

Just a couple of tunes and a pic or two.

I've got a Nokia 6103 and t-mobile.

Is the Nokia cable and PC suite stuff any good? The best price that I've seen on the cable is about $30 which seems pretty pricey, but I'd be willing to give it a shot if it works well enough.

Thanks

for ring tones just hit the preview button on the websites and record with your phone and set to ringtone. I use a cheap bluetooth adapter plugin for my laptop, make my own ringtones and transfer to cell along with pictures, files etc. got tired of the cables crapping out

John, that sounds like it would work pretty well. I'll give it a shot.

Anyone else?

I found a wallpaper of a red 934 last night. That would be cool, but I think I'll go for another Porsche Crest.

I have a nokia something-or-other and the PC Suite software is the only software you can use to upload stuff to the phone, isn't it? Mine has infrared, so it's easy to connect and upload tones or wallpaper (only did it once, when I first got the phone) and download pics or videos from it. As for wallpapers, you can take any jpg and just resize it to the right dimensions to upload - that's what I did. Good idea about recording a preview with the phone itself, then using that as a ringtone. The speakers on phones are so crappy that you'd never notice the quality from recording directly from speakers.

I discovered that my work laptop has an infra-red port, so I enabled it. It immediately recognized my phone. I found a couple of wallpapers online, downloaded them and was then able to push them to the phone. I haven't yet sampled any ringtones, but I'll be doing that shortly.

Here are the wallpapers that I got.

and for the smaller screen on the outside of the phone

How would I use one of those if I DON'T have an infra red port? Is there a way?

Never heard the Hello, Infidel ringtone but it sounds hilarious.

Hell, all I want is a simple renditon of "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" for when my son calls me and I haven't been able to find one!

if your phone is bluetooth capable and your laptop is not, there's a bluetooth usb adapter for about $20 or less you can transfer between phone and laptop or pc. cheaper than the cable and should work for any phone. you'll need different cables for different phones if not.

You need internet access on your cell phone. For instance, before I had a phone with IR, we enabled T-mobile's "T-zones" on my wifes phone. Then you can download stuff to the phone from the net, wallpapers, games, ringtones, etc..... I enabled the t-zones for a month for $5, downloaded what I wanted and then turned it off. I suspect that most service providers are similar.

Cool.

I managed to get a copy of "Inna gadda da vida", Fur Elise, the Charlie Brown theme, the circus caliope song, and a regular phone sound today.

It's nice to have different rings for different people so you know roughly who's calling by the ring.
