anybody see the movie "The Departed"

I was watching this movie on HBO the other night and missed something when I left the room for a bit. What was in the envelope the Di caprio character gave to the shrink? I only stepped out for a minute but didn't see it explained.

In the original film, the envelope contained information on all of the gang members...names, ssn, etc. The boss collected them to give to his mole in the police to find the police mole in the gang.

Do yourself a favor and rent the movie(s) that the Departed was (poorly) based on:

Infernal Affairs
Infernal Affairs 2 (don't watch the third one...it sucks).

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0338564/

Waaaaay better than the Departed.

What DiCaprio gave to the shrink was tapes of Matt Damon's character talking to and conspiring with Jack Nicholson. Thats how she knew that Matt Damon was actually a bad guy.

sorry, i misread your question. I thought you were talking about the envelope.

In the original, the tapes make an appearance in a much cooler way.

I was talking about the envelope. Regarding the tapes didn't she get something in delivered that said "Play me now" I thought that was something different then the envelope.

Nostatic, I'll have to check those out.

As a Scorsese film goes, I was disappointed. I actually started watching the film late at night and turned in rather then watch the whole thing (not a good sign, at least for me). Rather then watching the next night, I asked a coworker how it finally ends. Sure it had a few quirks in the end, but I pretty much had everything figured out without even trying. DiCaprio is not one of my favorite actors also. I can only take so much of his "intense scowl" school of acting.

not quite

Decaprio gave the shrink an envelope that we assume had tapes, papers that explained everything.

However, the shrink heard the tapes when she was at Damon's apartment and saw the envelope that Decaprio had sent Damon. She listened to the tape while he was in the shower.

It was an OK movie, I'll have to see the original... didn't know it was a remake.

Here's an observation from the movie, did anyone else see this? When Matt Damon's girlfriend moved in with him, he was upset about a picture of her when she was a kid sitting on a bicycle being in the living room. In a scene later in the movie DeCaprio went to Matt Damons girlfriends apartment while she was moving out and he made mention of the SAME picture! I ask again...did anyone else notice this?

Mark Wahlberg, formerly "Marky Mark" who was a beefcake in a music video to the tune of "Good Vibrations" set to rap, was a white trash gang banger in south Boston. He beat up an asian fellow just because he was asian and he beat the guy so hard that the victim lost an eye. If I recall, he was charged with attempted murder, sentenced to a couple of years and did a month or two in jail. This was back in the 80's if I recall. Sort of ahead of his time for doing "celebrity justice", which is an oxymoron.

If you recall, Damon told her (point blank) that she was not to display that picture in 'their' living room. I took it from the later scene, that she was upset with his reaction and took it back to her apartment. She was, after all, not totally infatuated with Damon ...she did knock loins with DeCaf.

I dislike a few of the actors in the film, and watched it expecting not to like it. Even with that expectation, I disliked it intently. Sloppy, overbearing and just not compelling.

I liked Nicholson, but even he seemed attenuated.

I steer people away from this film.

seriously...rent "Infernal Affairs."

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0338564/

You will be shocked at how good it is and how bad The Departed is by comparison. And if you've never seen Tony Leung, you're in for a treat. Plus Eric Tsang who played Sam (the mob boss) is sooooooooooo much better than Nicholson it isn't even funny.

She mentioned to De Caf that she still had 3 (I think) months rent left on her place. The 'move' appeared (to me) to be a sloooow process. She seemed to be not completely convinced this (move) was all for the best. JMO

oddly enough that is true of at least one other movie that comes to mind

I liked The Departed. Decent flick, I thought that dumbed down movie thing meant I was watching the wrong ones, they do that on purpose? I guess that should not really surprise me.
