LOL. When I lived in Atlanta in 1999, 87 octane gas at the QuikTrip was $.99. I had this Cherokee and I was concerned about fuel economy then.

I remember when one could fill my 944 for $20-$25 with Super.

Never when I had it, mind you, but the previous owner....

I was watching Entourage reruns last night, which of course, takes place in LA. They showed a Chevron where premium was $2.49. I miss even those days.

And I swore I'd quit smoking when they hit $2.00 a pack.:confused:

Ha! Higher gas prices haven't put a dent at all in consumption. It'll take about $6-$7 before people take it seriously.

You guys are just babies. Back in 1970 when I was 16 I remember paying 19.9 CENTS for a gallon of gas.

I've got you beat Hugh. I once got it for 17 cents in a 2 gallon can which I used to mow lawns. There were 4 full service station at an intersection and they would have gas wars. 1965.

I remember buying gas in '77. It was about $1.25 a gallon. A fortune at the time. I'd get payed on Friday, and spend 90% of it filling the GTO. By Saturday afternoon I'd be running on fumes.

17cents a gallon when I got my first bike at 9yrs old. next year it was 23 cents. returned coke bottles for the 6 cent refund or fished out golf balls to sell to buy gas. also learned you could stretch the gashoses out after the store closed and get quite a bit of free gas draining what was still in the hose. hit a few pumps and I'd have a free tank of gas for the moped

I take it seriously, but there is not much more I could do about it personally, I grow a lot of my own fruit and vegetables, want a sack of oranges? I guess I could take the LC(loser cruiser/bus) or ride the bike to the office, but if I get called and have to go somewhere during the day would be hosed.

I remember when I used to keep a $5 bill in the ashtray of my bug, would get you a little under half a tank of gas.

So what do you pay for an average fill up then? I was in Montreal on the weekend, where gas prices are even higher than most of Central Canada because of an extra tax. I paid $82 to fill up a Chevy Trailblazer SS.

Someone said something about $2 for a pack of cigarettes. Try $8 in Ontario. Damn glad I quit smoking years ago, when they were only $5!

It's good to know that I'm not the only old guy here...remembering the "Gas Wars" with fondness...

I remember those prices in the second half of 1999 very well.
The oil refineries were losing money with every gallon refined (millions per day), but they weren't allowed to stop producing. If they did they would be put in jail. I saw many good people lose their jobs over that and it took about the industry about 4 years to recover.
Funny, I don't remember any politicians standing up and supporting them then.
