Cool Favorite Things About Pelican BBS

What is your favorite thing about the Pelican BBS?

I'll start with a few of mine:

1) Believe it or not, most discussions here are MUCH more civil than other BBS sites. Most degrade into name calling by 12-year olds claiming to be 30 by the 2nd or 3rd post. We usually get at least ten good posts in.

2) Real technical knowledge of the subject matter. I have never failed to get a good answer on a Porsche-related question.

3) International members. I like to hear from Markus and Stijn, among others.

4) Real camaraderie. I've always had a good time getting together with Pelicans. Heck, I'd even buy Supe a beer if I met him.

+1 on all of the above

Also, you can ask a question and get answers from people coming from all kinds of different backgrounds, ages, ect. Plus, a lot of the stuff that gets posted is pretty interesting, funny, or informative, or a great time waster.

I've never seen a group of people that basically have never met one another offer up so much support in times of crisis.

This is a great place to be!

Hello to you all!

I have to agree. It is great to get advice from people that has solved the technical issues you are about to try...
Great help, and here you're always sure to get an answer. I think this is the forum where you are most readily given help... That may be because it is American?

You guys are fabulous, and very friendly!

I enjoy the intellectual stimulation, most of my daily personal contacts are on a fairly basic level. Some pretty talented writers on this board, coherent composition has always been a bit of a struggle for myself.

And that is why Pelican is so much better than R... um, the "other" forums.

now you've done it, you've said you WANT to hear from me!
time to release my parking brake

i just like it here, because it's different from most forums
the Porsches are the common thing that bring all the different styles and walks of life to one point, and it seems to open doors for friendship , removes prejudice, and just levels the field...

i wouldn't go as far as saying that the Porsches attract a specific crowd, i don't think so
except maybe then the Targa folks with them gold chains , i didn't like Gold chains so that's why i sold mine, to much peer pressure
there are to many different characters on this board to define it as anything specific, but i think it attracts folks who have overlapping attitudes

The breadth of technical knowledge here is unbelievable. Both pcar and other subjects. I think there must be an true expert on this board for just about any subject imaginable. Plus I travel alot domestically and internationally and I often post that I'll be somewhere and end up having a beer with one or more fellow pelicans. I think the only place I didn't meet another pelican when I posted was in Budapest. There is a Pelican who lives about 1/2 mile from me and he and I have become very good friends. He even runs my domain name through his servers for free.

Along with the above, I also like how easy it is to get parts for my cars!
A few keystrokes, and a delivery truck leaves boxes at my door.

exactly. We used to meet quite frequently at Giovannis in Atlanta. Looking forward to the meets.

Not to mention the mountain runs.

The people I have met.
The events I have attended
getting questions answered almost instantly (technical)
I read the latest news on OT before I get it by any other source.
The availability of used parts
the willingness for people to help a brotha out.

I agree with the above posts!

I think also the accountability issue helps too;
cause more or less we all know someone, who knows someone, who knows YOU!
I belong to other forums, they're way less active, very polite and kind; but there's no chance of ever meeting any of them.

I like getting together with the other PHeads; great camaraderie, that's for sure!

My favorite thing would be actually being able to help someone whether its an OT or Tech issue; it just feels good because I've taken so much from this forum.
