What the hell is going on? Another closet case

Or it could be people who want the ban lifted setting this guy up since he was a steadfast protester. Not saying this guy is innocent, just that we don't have all of the facts.

This sounds as though someone has a grudge and has set this guy up for a fall. It's a lot like the case of a friend of my parents.
This particular gentleman worked as a Warder at a detention center for young offenders for several years and, from what I understand, had been retired for quite a few years which should give you some idea of his age. One day out of the blue he was taken to the police station, questioned, and some time later arrested and charged with abuse (non-sexual I believe) of some of these youths 15 or so years previously. When this got looked into it seems as though one of these kids, now a young adult of course, had recently said something although wasn't able to provide much detail or sustantiate anything. The investigation then lead to a handfull of the other inmates from the time also claiming to have suffered abuse from this guy. The problem was that the first time these guys were asked they had no information, but when they were told that if it was shown that they had been abused that they may be eligable for compensation they suddenly 'remembered', even then their accounts seemed to change. Nobody had ever said anything about this previously, nobody had complained while he had been working there. Nothing.
I don't know how anyone can possibly see ignore the fact that these individuals, apart from the possible compensation, may have some kind of grudge against the men who had to keep them under control while they were locked up. Plus they were criminals and possibly not the most trust worthy folk to benig with. Also, out of all the guys that had been in the centre, and there must have been hundreds, less than half a dozen claimed to have any recollection of anything happening. I don't know how he would even go about trying to prove that he did nothing.
Well, the gentleman eventually got found guilty and sent to prison but maintained his innocence. Even when told that by continuing to claim to be innocent was preventing an earlier parole he STILL said that he was innocent and refused to say otherwise. Eventually he did get early release despite the fact that he says he did not do anything.
From what I know and from what my parents and his friends have said, this guy is as honest and sincere as anyone you'll ever meet. They all say that there is no way on earth that this guy would do anything like this, and I believe them. Everyone firmly believes that he is innocent and would have no problem trusting him with their own kids. He now plays golf with a lot of his old friends incuding my Father, and I believe is looking into the case himself to try to get his name cleared.

He is not the only person to have been caught up in something like this recently in Britain. If anyone has ever been in a position of authority just think how easy it would be for anyone who wants to get back at you to do so. It is impossible to provide evidence for something you haven't done, and faced with six people who insist that you did do something the deck is stacked against you.

^^^ Exactly. A school teacher in where I once lived was accused of sexual harassment by one of his female students. Turns out after he was dragged through the mud by the media and most of the community that the girl was mad at him for giving her a failing grade on something. The media immediately dropped it from the news without so much as an apology.

I don't know how to preface this without it being a cliche. U always have to be very conscience that whatever U do or say is or can not be misconstrued. Its like U have to be on guard and looking over your own shoulder all the time.
