Why Huckabee will be our next president

Two words... Chuck Norris.

That is right, vote for Huckabee or incur the wrath of the Chuckster!

From Yahoo news:
"Layering one small success on the next, Huckabee made an Internet sensation out of his endorsement by TV tough guy Chuck Norris"

I actual heard heard some audio clips on the radio yesterday "How will Mike Huckabee secure the Mexican boarder? Chuck Norris..."

You know what, I try to vote on issues but I pretty much end up voting Democrat... but this guy seems honest and actually has a sense of humor... if he makes all the way I just may have to vote Republican in the next election!

And before you guys get your panties in a wad I know a baptist minister has a snowballs chance in he11 at getting elected.

But I am serious... if I had the chance I would vote for him.

Ah, thanks Scott. Another political thread. On popular demand!

While we are on the subject, that candidate Mitt ? A moron...no, mormon, right? I read up on that Utah speciality a bit. Fascinating stuff. As I understand, it was more or less invented de novo in 1830 by a chap who apparantly had nothing better to do. Something about them waiting for God/Jesus to return and rule the world himself. In the meantime they have a guy communicating with God on a daily basis. Fascinating.

Any mormon Pelicans/Pelican mormons? If so, no offence. Each to his own. I mean, I believe in Darwin and according to statistics that would make half of all America think me a darn fool. Fine with me.

I will vote be voting for the most competent candidate, and I am putting my own beliefs on the back burner. We desperately need a good manager.

I certainly have nothing against Mormons (all religions are equal fantasy worlds to me), but his religion, and his religion alone, will prevent him from getting the nomination and the presidency. The US is still kinda weird about the "less mainstream" religions.

Thanks Shaun. I've been looking at that episode for the longest time. It's one of the funniest SP episodes.

As for Huckabee, his belief in Creationism really throws up the red flags IMO.

I have no problem with him believing in creationism, I'm only concerned on what his qualifications are and whether he'll adhere to our constitution. Just because someone believes in something doesn't mean they're going to change everything based on that belief, you know what I mean? Business is business. We do all kinds of things we don't necessarily believe in at work....

Problem is, the two are often mutually exclusive. Someone who is willing to publicly dispute what is by now a basic scientific concept for the sake of their religious beliefs could end up doing anything...outlawing stem cell research, who knows what...

I can't see anybody in politics taking religion very seriously.

I hope Huckabee and Obama reshape the primaries.

also i've heard on TV a few times that evangelicals are 50-80M of the whole population.

I beg to differ and that they are quite often mutually exclusive. Again, I do not base my business decisions on my personal beliefs. I can't imagine most here do...you don't, do you?

And don't forget, a president can't do that without congress.....

And, even if, lets say, a Christian president were able to solely do things like outlaw stem cell research, then an athiest president could solely outlaw things like, oh, I dunno, federal religious holidays, which, IMO, would not be cool either. It's devastating either way, and this is why the president doesn't have that power.

Not so long ago this country wouldn't elect a president that wasn't a Christian. Which president did we have that practiced another religion?

Now the big objection to Huckabee is that he is a Christian.

How many of those past Christian presidents force fed their religion on the country?

If you want a Southern Baptist preacher who is opposed to Darwinism and evolution, I guess he is your man.

Jimmy Carter was a deacon in the baptist Church and he taught Sunday school. I don't recall him forcing his beliefs on us.

Here is a list of the religious affiliations of all presidents:
http://www.adherents.com/adh_presidents.html

Everyone a Christian of one flavor or another.

My point is, it didn't matter with those Presidents. No reason to think it would be different with Huckabee.

Why Huckabee won't be our next president.

His name is too close to Huckleberry. Hound, Finn, or I'm your Huckabeerry.

Huck rhymes with another.... uck word.

Norris likes him.

I wonder how his position in the early '90s that people with teh AIDS should be quarantined is going to play? That kind of talk, esp. from a baptist minister, kinda freaks some people out.

This article put me off him completely. I know it's from 1998, but I don't want a preacher acting as a president.

Quote:
"Government knows it does not have the answer, but it's arrogant and acts as though it does," Huckabee said. "Church does have the answer but will cowardly deny that it does and wonder when the world will be changed."
Quote:
"I didn't get into politics because I thought government had a better answer. I got into politics because I knew government didn't have the real answers, that the real answers lie in accepting Jesus Christ into our lives."
Quote:
The nation has descended gradually into crisis, Huckabee said, and repairing the damage needs to be gradual, too. He said the solution is simple: faith in Christ.
