yep, you got a nice car. I'm using ported 5c heads and a UD 288/296 hyd cam with .485/.507 lift in mine- not sure if I can hit those HP #'s but its torquey as hell and even with stock gearing it drives well.- It can break the back end loose if I hit it hard at 35MPH.. I'm going for wheel setup like yours after the interior is put back together.. |
Mark, check your PM -

72 4 door - great looking Goat!
|
Thanks mark saw the thread on goats and couldnt resist showing it, i spent 5 years rebuilding it. just finished it last may. As far as daily drivers go,at 8 miles to the gallon it would ad up quick although you would get there quickly!and with a big ole smile.

(the 69 w/hideaways is my fave year) |
I have a 69 GTO in my garage right now. My dad ordered it brand new when he got back from Vietnam and it served as our family car intil I turned 16. My dad had a 911 and my mother had a 68 XKE so the GTO was the only car we had that could really seat four. I will never sell it and sitting in it takes me back in time. Trips with the family as a kid, dates with girls and the weekend street races against friends.
It has factory air, factory 8-track and the required 4-speed transmission. It doesnt have power steering or power brakes, so driving it is like working out. I also did a restomod on a 69 GTO conv several years ago that turned out very nice. Wish I still had that car. I sold it and bought my first 911 |

Great looking 70. I really like how they modded those ralley II wheels. I had some made about ten years ago by a local company. Who did your motor work? sounds like it runs pretty hard. |

I will have to dig up some of the hardtop. Don't have any on the computer of that one. Heres one of the Convertible at a car show several years ago. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1197562124.jpg |
Nice! And the ride height is just right. :)

Reason I ask is that I had real problems using a brand new in box Edelbrock 1910 (Purchased from Greg Merrick in Longmont CO. the expensive one) and numerous fuel pumps (didn't want to regulate since I didn't want the extra plumbing and mess) - even at 6PSI output pressure it would puke out of the bowl vents and flood out the engine. I swapped for the DP 750 and no problems. At the moment that Edelbrock is just a really expensive paperweight. Might send it down to him to figure it out. |

Man, that is a really, really nice car. |
And those Ponchos make big power w/ really big torque.

Thanks Mark. There was a company back in the day called H-0 racing. They had what was called a Strong arm suspension package. It came with H-O racing springs, Koni 3 way adjustable shocks, and 1 3/8-in sway bars front and rear. I also added spindles from a "F" body car, boxed lower control arms, polygrahite bushings and a quicker steering box that was 2.5 turns lock to lock. Believe it or not, this car handles pretty damn good. There were several articles published in the 80's and 90's of this suspension package on various A body cars that were able to pull over 1g on the skidpad. pretty good for a heavy car. I have the same springs and shocks on my hardtop. But never changed to the bigger swaybars. Both cars ride very nice, not as floaty as the old muscle cars tended to be. Use as a daily driver? Well other then work, I would never drive it anyplace where I couldn't keep an eye on it. If your in a hurry, forget it. everytime you stop for gas, you'll hear about someones brothers uncle who had one just like it ;) The car is very reliable and relativly comfortable, but it really depends on what your used to. When my GTO was my daily driver that was all I knew. It was great then. But there is no hiding 4100 lbs of weight. If it has the factory manual steering it will probably feel extremely heavy. If it has the factory power steering it will feel pretty vague. The Air conditoning can work very well. Daily driver, I don't know. But a couple time a week to work and to play with on the weekends you bet. I don't know maybe i'm getting soft. I don't have a radio in my 911 and it has coil-overs and is extremely stiff. I love it. But honestly, I think I love it more because I only have to love it when I feel like it. It's the same with the GTO. It's nice sometimes to hop into the quiet confines of a modern car. it's makes me enjoy all the other toys even more. |

Thanks Randy. Theres a few Poncho guys on here. Who knew. That Lemans is very clean also. Sounds like you've got a little something in that motor as well. |
