Crazy weather we are having...
Last night 8:00pm I'm watching my son's soccer practice in shorts and a t-shirt.
December 11th - how crazy is that. (about 20 degrees above normal)

But, But, you're in St Pete. It never gets cold there. I was born in Largo, and eventually went to college at USF in Temple Terrace. It's cold sometimes and cool during the winter, but there's not really a winter.
Yesterday it was 80 here, it was 74 this morning, and it's 67 here now. Tonight it's supposed to get down to 50 or upper 40s, brrrrr.

The Catalina Mountains (less than 18 miles from my house and about 10k feet tall) were beautiful this morning with snow all the way down to the 5,000 foot level. Prety to look at from that distance!!

Screw you guys!
![]() We've had an unusually cold December, with temperatures dipping to -10C (14F) and tons of snow. Then rain all day yesterday and last night, which led to pretty slippery streets.

Chris:
I hear ya. Raised in Roachester New York (just across the pond from you). Had enough "lake effect snow" to last me ten lifetimes. Never again.

Actually we usually don't get *that* much snow here and usually not until into January. I usually still have the 911 on the road into December. Don't get me wrong, we get more than Florida or Arizona! But further west of here is what we call the "snow belt" - a stretch about 100 km or so wide that gets pelted. It's really bizarre - I can be driving eastbound towards home and the highways are just awful, snowing like crazy, and as soon as I get about 40 minutes west of here, it clears up almost instantaneously.

Drive from Buffalo to Cleveland during "lake effect", it is like a blizzard. Turn left at Cleveland (heading south) and within 10 miles sun and fun!!
Been there, done that, hated it......

I also grew up in Rochester area (Livingston County, just south), left home two months before my 18th birthday, traveled for couple years looking for a place to land, decided on LA...been here since '89. I love seeing snow from about 30 miles away...up on Mt. Baldy! It's especially beautiful through the windshield of the p-car...

Spare room? Actually, I do....not to mention the economy is a heck of a lot better here than there. At least we don't have once powerful industries knocking down buildings just to save a few bucks in property taxes!!

For every 1,000 feet in altitude, as a general rule, it is equivalent to moving 200 miles closer to the pole. That's why we have places down here that get snow on a more or less regular basis, being at altitudes from 5,000 to 7,000 feet (Benson, Bisbee, Hannagan Meadows, Tombstone, to name a few)
