Gotta love the Australian V8 Supercar racing....Porsche SuperCup too
In the Winter, it seems traditional that Speed TV runs these at least infrequently. They are pretty exciting to watch. It's their version of NASCAR, but I think they're all run on street or road courses.
It's what NASCAR should be, IMO. Don't get me wrong, it takes talent to run around Daytona or TMS or wherever at speed in traffic. But, I do prefer watching road racing. I'd probably rather watch ovals than street courses, which are often too tight and plagued with yellows. At any rate, the Aussie's are fun to watch. That's all I have to say about that. ![]() PS- I do like the Porsche SuperCup races too, they take "rubbin' is racin' " to a whole new level. I only wish they (Speed) didn't cram the highlights of two different races in 1/2 hour episodes.

I love the DTM races from Europe. F1 cars with bodies, and they sound great.

We like it too Ed!
As for the Supercar races they are run on a mixture of race tracks and street circuits both around Australia and there is also one round each in China, Bahrain, and New Zealand as far as I know. Cheers

![]() BTW, it looks like we'll be getting a version of your Utes soon here in the states, I love those cars. I had two Chevy El Caminos in my youth. PS- Don't have to worry about parking meters with the meter maids running around.... ![]()

I did my Masters in Australia, I was very disappointed that I didn't make it to Bathurst, unfortunately it was at a poor time assignment wise. I was surprised how huge V8 Supercar racing is. Too bad its only two makes now, Ford and Holden, and the two cars are nearly indistinguishable. Its funny too how seriously some take the Holden vs. Ford debate. Fun racing to watch.
One of the Supercar commentators now does Speed's F1 coverage, so I have a hard time listening to him because I always expect him to start talking about Skaife or someone...

Those Porsche SuperCup races are wild and wooly aren't they??!! Wow, there is an incredible amount of "rubbin" going on with those beautiful cars. And they drive aggressively...lots of P.I.T. type maneuvers spinning your opponents out in turns... Seems like that would frustrate the heck out of me if I had a $150K+ car, took all the time and money to get it prepped for the race, and then in the second corner some guy behind me hooks my rear bumper and spins me off the track into a pile of tires. I know it is racing, but wow, those guys seem to really push the limits. Fun to watch, but damn!

Personally, I'd love to enjoy the Supercup races, but they way that they are packaged on Speed, with 15 minutes per round, with full coverage of qualifying, tourism sites, grid girls and the full length leader, the actual race coverage itself ends up being about 5 minutes. That's way to frenetic for my attention span.

did you guys also watch the SCCA American Sedan race that was on this past week? I got a bigger kick out of that than the australian nascar stuff.
tube frames and glass bodies just are not that interesting to me.

The Aussie V8 Supercars aren't glass bodied. They're all steel, close to 1400kg, and around 600-620HP. When the tyres start to go off they are great to watch on high speed circuits as they are sideways often.

V8 Supercar is NOTHING like Nascar
Guys,
Our V8 Supercar series bears NO Resemblence to NAScar. The only similarity is that both series cars run V8's. V8 Supercar is our "premier" series for want of a better description. There are only two manufacturers, Ford and Holden (GMH). Downunder, it's presumed you're either a Ford or a Holden fan - that's just the way it is ![]() Check this link to the official V8 Supercar site: http://www.v8supercar.com.au/ "We" race hard down here...but for the most part clean ![]() A whole host of very talented drivers and well prepared teams...lots of "our" guys have made it in international motorsport coming out of the V8 ranks; both drivers and engineers. Oh yeah...in our house NOTHING gets in the way of Bathurst viewing...it's the "holy grail" of weekends ![]() Cheers, Lisa PS - I'm not having a dig at NAScar...hell I'll watch any form of motorsport as long as it's not a procession... |

I don't think anyone here made that "accusation".....I made the statement when I started the thread that in my opinion, this is the way NASCAR should be.

Sorry Ed...that's not what I meant. These are two very different types of racing; both have their merits and attractions of course. You obviously know the differences
![]() FWIW it looks like Aussie Nascar will be back too. The oval at Calder Park is being refurbished and if what we've heard is true; Nascar will be running there again. Lots of good works about to happen at Calder Park ![]() Cheers, Lisa |
